Hi there, UK-based immortalists. I see there's discussion of face-to-face meetings... Well, we've got a very promising event going on in London on the 13th of May, so why don't you kill two birds with a stone: brainstorming with Anders Sandberg AND meeting up with others from this forum... now, that's an offer you can't refuse! ;-)

Cheers,
Fabio

The next ExtroBritannia event is scheduled for Sunday the 13th of May at 2,00pm at Conway Hall (Artists’ Room), in Holborn, London. Everyone welcome.

Paths to life-extension. Scenario planning with Anders Sandberg

What would be the social impact of different development paths to life-extension? We could experience a sudden breakthrough, or a slower development. Advancements could be based on complex and expensive medical services, genetic interventions or novel pharmaceutical agents. Do we need a state-sponsored "war on ageing", or will the private sector drive progress in this area? Will life-extension come to be regarded as enhancement, as opposed to therapy? Will there be organised opposition to these developments? Will there be organised support? After an introduction to the basics of scenario planning, Anders Sandberg will lead an informal scenario session exploring these topics.

We will be at the Penderel's Oak from 12.30pm for lunch and conversation and will move to Conway Hall at 2pm. We’ll be back at the Penderel’s post-event for drinks and discussion at approx. 5pm. Feel free to show up at any stage.

If it's your first time at an ExtroBritannia event, look out for a copy of Hans Moravec’s "Mind Children" at our table. Here's a picture of the book's cover: http://www.frc.ri.cm...88/MC.cover.gif

Sounds brilliant. I have spoken with my father and he is pessimistic on whether I could attend because my mother is arriving from Italy. However I will try my best to be there, and in the meantime I will inform Biopunk about this, the pair of us would love to come as this would be our first ExtroBritannia meeting.
Great job organizing it,
- Sezarus

Yes! Me and Sezarus have met up in person and discussed it. We would still very much like to come. We need to organise busses and routes and stuff. Might get pretty complicated but we'll be there! Anyobody else interested in coming? The UK fora seriously needs to liven up a bit! :)

It's sorted now, bus times and costs and so on... Myself and Biopunk will be there.

It was a great meeting, and I'm happy to have met several new people there.

Any news on when the next one's going to be?
