I read about that report, too...thank God for the likes of consumer labs!

Consumer Labs is not an adequate source of current information:

1- Consumer Labs is not even a lab, they outsource the lab testing to other no-name and possibly non ISO 17025 accredited labs. The fact is that they won't spill the beans on the labs they use so that we can verify proper laboratory ISO accreditation.

2- In fact the prices you pay are for marketing done once a year, since they don't continually test products for every batch.

3- The resveratrol tested at consumer labs was over two or three years ago. New imported material and products have not been tested since then by Consumer Labs.

4- Consumer Labs business model is a for profit model based on marketing results. Do not be confused to believe they are the same folks behind the non-profit Consumer Reports, because they are not.

5- As seen in recent hyped Consumer Labs press releases, they market 'results' or state that something bad was found in food/supplements even though they already know the FDA limits for the bad things were not met, they will use alarmist marketing to make folks subscribe to their information, or be tested.

So relying on Consumer Labs, sets you up for issues. Simply because they tested a product 2 years ago for a single batch, does not mean the current version of the product is safe at all. The fact is that the FDA allows skip-lot testing. Those 2 year old tests will only provide you a false sense of security.

What you need is a company that tests EVERY batch of material by an independent ISO 17025 accredited here in the United states.


Our company does that, you need to verify if your favorite company does that as well.

I won't argue with your belief in number 1. But i am all ears with what you have to say about Consumer Labs. The first time I cam across them, I thought they were impartial - protector of the common and public interest. They can be bought?

I won't argue with your belief stated in item 1. But am all ears with what you have to say about consumer labs. i was under impression that they protect common/public interests...your items 2 comes across as if they can be swayed or bought?

Thanks, A, for taking time to spell this out for me. Rest assured we're not taking consumer lab reports for gospel truth. we just came across 1 but it did get us on a defensive mode where assessing products sold online is concerned. so maybe for even that just, we can still be a little grateful. Where do you source your materials, btw?

The fact is that the Consumer Labs tests are too old and do not apply to current resveratrol products.

Think about it this way:
You wouldn't use 2004 car reviews to buy a 2011 car...

So why are you looking at an old Consumer Labs report done 2-3 years ago to consider products today?

Because of the practice of 'Skip-lot' testing, people can import new material every month for product manufacturing. The consumer lab test would have only been accurate for only a single month of product manufactured 2-3 years ago, and not all those manufactured since that time.

Think about, does a review done 2-3 years ago tell you how safe a product is today?
The answer is, no of course not.

Don't rely on the old reports, and look for current lab tests. We have companies here that do provide some tests. Look for the tests that actually show heavy metals content and microbial, such as e-coli testing, some don't even provide this information (which is the whole point of these tests) and in my opinion, should be avoided if their test does not even test for the basic harmful issues: http://www.imminst.o...trol-suppliers/
