PAR-ICE HILTON - SHE WANTS TO BE FROZEN...WITH PETS

18th October 2007
By Charli Morgan in London, and Iain Burchell, US Editor, in Los Angeles

WACKY Paris Hilton wants to live for ever by having scientists freeze her body when she dies.

The super-rich heiress is investing a fortune in the world’s biggest suspended animation cemetery so it can preserve her and then bring her back to life.

The plan is that future technology will be able to restore her, looking younger than ever. And to keep her company, Paris will have her beloved pets frozen with her.

The 26-year-old It Girl has snapped up shares in the Cryonics Institute in Michigan, where she reckons the boffins can make sure she is still partying in thousands of years’ time. “It’s so cool,” she said. “Almost all the cells in the body are still alive when death is pronounced. “And if you’re immediately cooled, you can be perfectly preserved.

“My life could be extended by hundreds and thousands of years.” Animal lover Paris fears her pet chihuahua Tinkerbell will be the first Hilton to put the scientists to the test because the poorly pooch is said to be on its last legs.

Paris – who is being lined up for I’m A Celebrity Get me Out Of Here! – is turning her upcoming trip to Rwanda into a reality show. She will be followed around by a film crew on her five-day mercy mission visiting schools and clinics in the war-ravaged country.

This is the dark side of cryonic and transhumanism. People could be annoying for the eternity...

Wow, just wow.

Expect an influx of teeny boppers.

Is CI a publicly traded company? I guess I hadn't realized that.

As bad as it is that SHE'S now in the fold, it's a very, very good thing for cryonics.

If Paris Hilton is getting cryonically frozen, all the little rich teens will want to get frozen, which means that more funding goes into cryonics, and more exposure. The exposure might be the most important aspect of it.

It would be annoying to see Paris Hilton 500 years in the future, but it's not like there wouldn't be an equally annoying figure then anyway.

Maybe she's not as dumb as everyone thought. She could be just saying this just to generate more press for herself, though.

I don't think it will be great publicity. People will probably think its only a joke.

Yeah, it seems Paris is starting to put cryogenics in a bad light making every think its a joke. What the movement needs is more funding not publicity from the worlds ultimate drag queen. ... Except if she's planning to invest and donate a large amount to it, then that could be beneficial.

Right now...I would say it is good publicity. who knows how it will all unwind, but their is no one else who could draw more attention to cryonics at the moment. Of course we all wish a whole swarm of respectable politicians and scientists would just jump on the cryonics bandwagon....sorry to break it to you....it ain't going to happen. Cryonicists have to work with what they get, and this is as good as it gets.

Also, let me say that if I was Paris and I read up on cryonics and decided it was worth the chance and worth the 'bad' publicity.....and then I came to a public forum at Imminst and people were wishing I would just die, I might turn sour on the whole movement.

Of course, there are probably a lot places she could go to read bad stuff written about her.....still, I think we should give her a chance and not drive her away.

I think we're overestimating the influence that Paris has on the idle rich. I don't think anybody views her as a type of leader.

I formally offer up myself to be her future husband. With an incentive like that, I am sure she will want to stick around. [sfty]

That is what I am afraid for.
On dutch forums, they are making jokes about her idea to be frozen. [mellow]

it's not great publicity, but it is publicity. And it will make some people that never thought about the idea before educate themselves about it

I always read these articles about how she's really a marketing genius, like this:

Maybe this is a sign? Will cryonics be cool in the near future? (++pun)

Hearing anyone saying they wish I was going to die or was worthy of being killed for being an idle celebrity would be pretty distasteful...let's remember she's annoying, she is causing no greater harm than that imo. The fact that the article is taking a goofy tone towards cryonics is no doubt revealing the calibre of readership for the publication. No serious publication would have that kind of story presented in that light - not Time, Harper's, Wired, Macleans, but to name a few...this looks a tabloid rag to me.

and she deserves this kind of condemnation why? She might be a spoiled brat, but that doesn't deserve a death sentence in my book.

she gave a lot of money and made a nice pro cryonics statement. what more can you want her to do? besides that, judging the personality or intentions of a person from his or her appearance on the media is pointless.

Frankly I don't understand the hostility towards Paris. A lot of people do stupid things in their 20's. Paris just did her share in front of cameras, with the added complication that she often made money in the process. (Yes, the market decided that her antics produce value.)

If anything, she looks like the poster child for a new life stage some call "the odyssey years," a period of extended adolescence that some people don't leave until their 30's.

Yeah, I don't understand why people hate her so much. Its not like she has done anything that bad to anyone. Sure she acts like a ditz and is spoiled, but is that a reason to hate her?
The news surrounding her has always been entertaining (Porno, prison sentence, arguing with Nicole Ritchie etc.).
Hilton's Lawyer speaking/Jake Byrd yelling
Jokes at her expense are a gold mine for comedians.

Gladiator quote:
Maximus:"Are you not entertained! Are you not entertained! Is this not why you are here!"

I think it's the "famous for being famous" thing- she has no actual talent that I'm aware of. She's not even that great looking. I mean, there's no there there... If she had done something with all the money and the advantages she's had, it'd be different, but I think people are kind of disgusted with the notoriety she gets for no good reason, other than the fact that another bimbo with a trainwreck life (How 'bout Britney?) is always entertaining.

I'm not sure this is a great thing for cryonics. All publicity is good publicity? I hope so.

You all, no one has verified this. I talked with Ben on the phone last night for two hours... nothing about Paris, CI does not have 'shares'. This story could be made up, or if she is wanting to do this she is not yet a member of an organization--and if she is, then they have the wrong cryonics company.

But, if she does want to--then that would be wonderful publicity--and Paris is not a 'bad' person, she is playful, intelligent, funny and loving. She has good family relations and it would be nice if she stayed a cryonicist throughout her life-- I would hope she'd read my book and learn about the possibilities of transhumanism :) That all being said, which ever organization she joined (if she does, or has) I'd be willing to teach her talking points about cryonics. Someone would need to, thankfully Alcor will give their current talking points to anyone who is doing public interviews.

She certainly won't have to worry about whether she can afford it or not.

just talked with Ben, and he can't confirm or deny--in case she is ever a member so she'll have her privacy, or if she is a member and wants privacy. I for one, think it is hype and the reporter typed in cryonics to his search engine and Cryonics Institute comes up first, if Paris was going to do it I don't think she would have asked for privacy. So my feeling is this is not real--but I did offer to give Ben my Alcor talking points, and even talk to any members that CI has who may be doing T.V., radio or paper interviews. On the money issue, yeah, if Paris researched cryonics she'd probably go with a more expensive cryonics company--but we'll see--would be fun if she did it at all. :)

She is probably undercover here with a SN. I am guessing zoolander, or maybe elrond is actually Paris.

There was a similar story about Michael Jackson joining the American Cryonics Society 20 years ago. Shannon is right. Until you hear the actual person talking about it, tabloid stories are just tabloid stories.

My theory is that Tiffany Summers got Paris to sign up.

Back around 1990 The National Inquirer ran a front page story about how Elizabeth Taylor had arranged for her cryosuspension.

It probably pissed off ordinary people that she got a reduced sentence and special treatment in jail. Cases like hers, and OJ's, and Robert Blake's, and Phil Spector's, show how money and celebrity sabotage justice in this country.
