Resveratrol: Is There Any Effect on Healthy Subject?Kavas GO, Aribal-Kocatürk P, Büyükkaðnici DI.
Faculty of Medicine, Department of Pathophysiology, Ankara University, Sýhhiye, Ankara, 06100, Turkey.

This preliminary study was planned to investigate the effects of resveratrol on oxidative-nitrosative stress markers and on trace element concentrations in blood and on circulatory system parameters in rats. Twenty-five Sprague-Dawley male rats, 10-12 weeks old, with mean body weight of 295 g were used in the study. Administration of resveratrol (0.5 ml/day) was performed in experimental group in 10 days. In control (n = 10) and in experimental groups (n = 15), after 1 week training period, systolic arterial blood pressures and heart rates were recorded daily. At the end of the tenth day, blood samples of control and experimental groups were drawn. Total nitrite, nitrite, nitrate, malondialdehyde, copper, zinc concentrations in plasma, superoxide dismutase, and catalase activities and copper, zinc concentrations in red cell were determined both in control and experimental groups. Alterations in oxidative and nitrosative stress markers, trace element concentrations, and circulatory system parameters in experimental group compared to controls were observed. The results of this study were discussed according to the effect of resveratrol.

Thanks, Brainbox. I think other factors may well have caused
his BP to go up.

These other people reported their BP actually going down,
around 10 to 15 %, in line with the systolic readings after
resveratrol in the study above.

My blood pressure has dropped after taking 1g resveratrol for a week. 117/78 to 112/70. This is also the week that I have been diagnosed pre-diabetic, so all other changes should be for a higher blood pressure (higher stress level, etc.).

Nothing is definitive proof of anything... ;))

I haven't notice any changes to blood pressure at all, other than the normal peaks and valleys.

Every time I increase my dosage I notice a slight increase in my blood pressure. However on each occasion I have taken it again after a few weeks and its back down to its normal very low level. I attribute this to the potential for Resveratrol to increase Norepinephrine (aka neuro-adrenaline) which also corresponds to the "rush" and extra good feeling that one gets for the first few weeks on a higher Resveratrol dose. I think most people adapt to this.

It's something to watch though as some antidepressants like Effexor which raises Norepinephrine carry with them a warning to get your blood pressure monitored regularly.
