A friend of mine was extolling the benefits of rebounding last night.
I've never considered doing it in all the years I've heard about it,
but after our conversation, am considering buying a rebounder.
Before running out to drop a couple of hundred dollars on one,
I thought I would check here to see what educated opinions
you all might have on it. Oddly enough I found nothing
about rebounding in a search on the exercise forum.
I am specifically interested in the claim of cellular regeneration.
Any advice, opinions, experience, proof of benefit claims etc would be appreciated.

1. Improve circulatory function.
2. Lower high cholesterol and triglyceride levels.
3. Reduce likelihood of cardiovascular disease.
4. Increase production of healthy red blood cells.
5. Strengthen blood vessels thru improved
circulation.
6. Strengthen lungs to increase breathing
capacity.
7. Increase oxygen circulation to the tissues.
8. Strengthen muscles and improves muscular
efficiency.
9. Improve muscle tone and flexibility.
10.Strengthen heart muscle and reduce rate of
heartbeat.
11.Slow down, often reverse the aging process.
12.Improves and stimulates metabolism.
13.Increase reserve energy stores in the body.
14.Promote cellular regeneration in the body.
15.Improve function of the glandular system.
16.Provide increased endurance.
17.Improves coordination.
18.Aids digestive and elimination systems.
19.Reduce tension and promote restful sleep.
20.Improve mental and learning processes.
21.Tendency toward hardening of arteries is reduced.
22.Aid in weight reduction programs.
23.Reduce muscle and joint pains caused by
sedentary lifestyle.
24.Improve eyesight.

Usually when a product (in this case a simple trampoline) has a list of super health benefits this long, it is something to be wary of. I see this trampoline is $400.00. Definitely not worth it in my view. Looks like a person would be more likely to get injured on it more than anything else.

Slow down and often reverse the aging process.

Who knew it was as simple as jumping on a trampoline!! Better tell Aubrey about it.

Usually when it comes to the "latest and greatest" piece of exercise equipment, it boils down to this: if it helps you enjoy exercising and actually gets you to do it on a regular basis, then it might be worth it. Otherwise no. A recent consumer reports segment I saw indicated that regular exercise without equipment was better at burning calories and focusing on different muscle groups (walking, crunches, planks). My wife really enjoys going to the aerobic workout classes at the gym because she can go with friends and there is social pressure to "work-out".

When I first saw the topic of this thread I thought you were referring to dating someone who had just broken up with someone else. The expression being they are "on the rebound".

Yeah sometimes things can move really fast as they need you to fill in that hole and get back at their ex. If you catch a beautiful woman in this status you might want to remind yourself to act fast as she'll go like a hot cake!

If your crazy enough to splash on an engagement ring there's a very good chance her answer will be yes.

LOL, I thought the same thing. I always thought it was a gimmick.
I was just wondering if there were ever any studies done that support the claim of cellular regeneration, among the other claims.
I've always done weight training and jump rope for exercise, and I do like the feeling I get after jumping and thought
maybe there was something to the rebounding thing after all these years of turning my nose up at it, but I am now thinking
my initial instinct was correct.

Hey, did you just hijack the rebounding thread? LOL
You know dating on the rebound is not a great idea, but marrying on the rebound is a terrible idea. The rebound
will rebound!

Depends on the situation though. You might have really liked her but never got together because she was taken and now suddenly she's available.

True, it might be a great opportunity for you, but what happens when she realizes that
she fell for you on the rebound and decides it was a moment of weakness?

Bouncing on a trampoline regularly should help improve balance and some stabilizer muscles. You could also get this benefit from focused core muscle training and yoga (either of which would likely provide far greater benefits than a trampoline, if you aren't a gymnast).

I think it's probably a great form of exercise and has a lot of benefits.

That said, the list of benfits, as with most 'miracle' types of exercise, while not outright wrong, is stated a bit too blatently I think, as if doing it alone would be enough or something, when really it's only one piece of an exercise routine which is only one piece of an overall healthy lifestyle.

Definately stuff already pointed out like 'reverses ageing' is outright wrong and a misapplication of terms, if not an outright lie. For the benefit of the doubt let's assume they mean the former and what is meant by 'reverse ageing' is 'you look younger and more vibrant and happy and gleeful' or whatever, which is probably true as bouncing's hella fun.

Yoga gets too much hype, it's probably way more hyped than rebounding is. Rebounding's going to help your stabilization way more than yoga is, it's far more dynamic, and involves higher force (as would any form of jumping rather than just standing around straddling the ground pointing your hands in opposite directions and calling it warrior).

The benefit to rebounding over normal jumping up and down a lot (which is the closest comparison really) is that since the surface is springier, you can jump higher, and absorb higher impacts because there is less jarring. Basically, all the benefits they list with rebounding, you should be able to get with normal jumping, just to a reduced degree since the impacts are smaller. I like the idea of how it kind of ballistically shakes your cells around, and how it would help the lymph system out.

That list is pretty big, it would be valuable to go through each supposed benefit and analyze their explanations for why you would get that benefit (if they provide any). I guess this could be done here, as it would take a while. Really, trampolines should have an internet forum, and each benefit discussion could be a separate thread in a forum related to health benefits of trampolining/rebounding. This probably goes beyond the context of the thread on this site, perhaps another's could be referenced or redirected?

I recently learned that trampolining might improve lymph drainage.
Anybody here have any experience with it ?
What benefits do you notice ?

Here's a couple of links:

It's also supposed to work for Dysautonomias. NASA invented a rebound chair for the astronauts. It seems that being in space screws up your autonomic nervous system. I've been wanting to try this as it's also supposed to increase indurance. But, I don't have the space for one right now. Still curious though. If you decided to try it, post some pictures. I think it would be funny.

I used this product to improve lymph flow. I think it worked. I have a general lympadenopathy and some lymph nodes, especially one under my left axilla, grew in size after I started using it and eventually shrank. It's still there, but I don't feel it as prominent any longer.
