Welcome to the new forum!
Bruce J. Klein, Michael Anissimov, & Susan Fonseca-Klein, directors here at the newly established Immortality Institute Inc., would like to extend a warm welcome to members joining us from BJKlein.com. We're proud to introduce you to the "new" home on immortals.

Quick Information:
  • BJKlein.com will continue to stay open!
  • Sorry, we we're not able to find a conversion tool to transfer all the posts from bjklein.com
  • Feel free to copy and paste posts or link back to bjklein.com.
Why create the Institute?
  • We want to help people understand the potential benefits and problems of physical immortality.
  • One step toward this goal is starting an Institute for learning.
  • As a non-profit, non-political, non-religious organization we can solicit funding and publish articles.

New forum information:

Forum Membership Groups
  • Guests can brows, post and reply to all topics.
  • Members will have Guest level privileges plus a Control Panel from which they can edit their profile, subscriptions, private messages, etc.
  • Navigators will have Member level options plus the opportunity to edit all forum posts and topics.
  • Advisory Board members will have Navigator level options plus they will represent the Institute as knowledgeable in a topic on their own forum.
New Forum Features
  • Dynamic Posts: One feature you may enjoy is the dynamic posting option. When you are replying to a post, simply highlight a word or sentence, then click the bold "B" button or any other posting button, such as "Quote" and the code will auto wrap around your highlighted selection (will not work with Netscape). Smiles will also insert at the courser mark, instead of at the end of posts.
  • Sell Checker: If you're like me, you may need a little help with some commonly misspelled words. Before posting click "Spell Checker"
  • Faster load times.
  • Subscription replies to email with full message.
  • Control panel to easily change options... and more forum features to come.
  • Option to turn off all pictures, smiles, and images in post for cleaner faster load times
  • Notepad for storing snippits.

Plans for the future:
As we progress, we hope to encourage members to commit more than just their minds to the cause. We hope to raise funds to support anti-aging research and to sponsor programs for immortality.

Happy Posting!
Bruce J. Klein

-->Please reply with your comment..... Thanks!

After playing around a bit, I think the forum works very well technically.

There appears to be a rather long delay after posting/making alterations. Is that due to flood protection or is the forum that slow. (In the latter case, that would be a problem)

I have not quite grasped the advisory board scheme yet. To be honest, I would prefer it if specialists would give their advice in the general discussions rather than splitting a topic into an "advised" and a "no-advised" strand.

My main concern is with the subtopics:
As one can only see the most recent post in a forum at first glance, it is necessary to click on all the subtopics to check wether there is something new and exiting there. In that respect I like the old forum much better.

Caliban,
Thanks for checking out the system.

There should be no delays for making an alteration. However, there is a 30 sec. wait time to prevent flooding for regular posts.

Yes, there are a few drawback with using the sub-category style... however, you can click on the "active topics" link to see the most current posts in all forums. ;)

Oh yes that reminds me! I want a smilie that winks AND smiles!!!

Aaaaad it would be great if the cookies would odopt to "read" after one has read a post. Otherwise one has to log out and back in again to get that effect.

But really: A very fine forum. Any decision about what to do with the "old" one? (The manual solution: If no conversion hack can be found, maybe create a link to the more prolific topics in the appropriate sections so people can read up on previous discussions over there and continue the strand here?)

I like most of the spellcheck and text functions but I still want a dictionary that learns and why won't the dictionary let me select US English? It keeps defaulting back to Danish? Ya he, doncha know it is verry weird...

I am concerned about the text stored in the other forum. Is it going to be phased out or maintained concurrently? Could "Closed Topics" be copied wholesale over to the new forum? Or better still just refiled so as to fit a different archive format but still be active? Should I copy/paste for example all of the "Creative Freespace" topics and just start new versions here or will there be an import function that you have a vailable?

Lastly, you have asked me to be an advisor, and this forum seems to have both advisors and navigators, moderators are also mentioned in the agreement but not above. Will the moderators from the other forum retain that function here or is this beginning under anew set of guidlines?

Laz: Thanks for pointing out that "moderator" is in the agreement...I need to change that to "navigator"

Instead of "moderators", they will be called Navigators.

Navigators will have full control on the board to move topics or edit posts.
Advisors will have Navigator control, plus they will be added the Advisory Board to be available to answer questions on a specific forum.

On moving topics from BJKlein...
As of right now there are no conversion sw's out there from snitz to ibforums... so moving topics and/or posts will have to manual.. (copy/paste)

bjk will be maintained...

Feel free to copy topics and posts from bjk to here....

For now you will have to copy/paste topics and posts over.. (however, this could change if we find a program that does this)

BJKlein will remain active regardless...
So, if there are topics you wish to reply to at bjk, please feel free... or you can start a new topic here.. there will be overlap, of course..... but I hope we will eventually use imminst.org for everything.

I haven't seen this problem... anyone else having this problem?

Caliban: I'll check into getting that smilie here's a couple of new ones... ;) ;)) i'll keep my eye out for more. heh

There is a link at the top of each forum "Mark this forum as read"

BTW: have you guys tried out the dynamic posting options for making word/sentences bold italic underline quote ect. ??

All you have to do is highlight the word... and then click one the button. ;)

First, I like the power that the features in this forum gives me. I like the professional image, but I think a few improvements can be made:

1) The forum topics are too compressed. Spread them out a little. I'd like to better see who is posting to which topic. Like at bjklein.com.

2) The font size is too small. Make it bigger, even if that means scrolling down a little. This, for those who have difficulty reading small print.

3) The space for editing posts seems unnecessary. I'd like to see the original post go straight into the space for writing your post, which is where I do my editing anyway.

4) There's too much blue. Don't get me wrong. I like blue. It's my favorite color. But for the artists among us, blue is a color with a cool temperature; it connotes distance. Bring in some warm colors like orangey browns.

Other than that, things look quite good.

Have you found a conversion hack for Fritz yet?

If not, should we reference to the old forums by
1) placing a link or
2) copying and printing "original posted by" or
3) would you rather do that yourself?

Looks like we'll have to wait a while (months) for this...

Feel free to copy/paste post from bjklein... however, linking back might be a little easier. Sorry about that.
