I was thinking of starting on 120mg gingko extract daily for memory enhancement and neuroprotection. Any comments?

I was looking at this product:

I'm surprised there's not more interest around here in taking Gingko extract, since Gingko is relatively cheap, safe, well-researched and has a demonstrable positive effect on memory, as well as being thought to be neuroprotective to boot. Is it a case of it not being cutting-edge and "sexy" enough?

Hmmm. That's one of the least informative studies I've seen in a while.

I sometimes wonder how (or where) these studies get published. "We ran a trial, but because of the limited statistical power of our design, we can't say anything conclusive one way or the other."

If I was the referee, I'd simply ask them to wait and write up their paper when they've got something that resembles a result.

Are you aware of any of the many studies showing a statistically significant result?

Interesting study, but it seems that the particular ginkgo biloba extract complexed with phosphatidylserine (virtiva, manufactured by Indena) is no longer available (at least I can't find it.)

There is also some suggestion that phosphatidylserine from bovine source is effective whereas phosphatidylserine from soy source is not.

You can get the NOW product at iherb.

Yeah, I saw that product, but it appears to be soy derived, which some studies at least suggest is not effective for cognitive improvement (in contrast to the bovine derived form).
