Immortals in Melbourne? Meet?

The first, unofficial ‘Australian Imminst meet-up’ happened last night.
I quickly discovered that there are some pretty smart dudes hanging around these forums...well-educated in the fields of nutrition and biological science. I definitely learnt a thing or two about looking after the human body and enhancing its function.
Interestingly enough though, the focus of conversation tended to stick to nutrition and diet, rather than life-extension technologies and achieving indefinite life-spans...which I expected might happen through such a forum. All in all, it was great to meet up with some like-minded people and talk about the idea of immortality.
Here’s a photo from the meet-up.

Thanks to all who came along.
Cheers

Shame I couldn't come down, it was 10 by the time I got away from the city. Give us some more details on how it went. Also, I can't see the photo you refer to.
Yes, a shame you couldn't come along. Would have been good to meet you as well!
Re: The photo - can anyone else not see it, or?
Cheers

Weirdly I can see the photo on my phone but not on my computer.
Great shot of you guys. Good to see the G-man again. I've signed up at the Australian Immortals Meetup site so hopefully I'll see you dudes in June. If it does happen I'll document the whole event and write up an article.

Yes, I wasn't sure exactly what to write. I'm happy to elaborate further Ben. What would you like to know specifically? If you can ask a few questions, I'll post back with some answers.

Hmm, you could maybe do up an article on how the meet up went etc, what you spoke about. I don't want to sound partronising but what seems like obvious knowledge to you (as you attended the event) could possibly be newsworthy and interesting to us.
I'd go all out give your impressions of the meeting completely. If you don't want to hopefully I'll get a chance to do so at the next meeting (if it's still on). I think it'd be great for the imminst if we do this, if we can show people that we're real and not just a bunch of kooky, nutty people (you all look perfectly respectable ), which, I think, may be the initial attitude people from the outside looking in have.
This could spark other meet ups and soon enough we have some kind of tangible culture to display, really adding to our legitimacy I think

This meeting was more of an initial 'meet and greet', rather than a discussion on a particular area.
Zoolander specializes in nutrition and biological science, so he had plenty to offer on that. Woly is also studying at uni in a similar field and Robbie7 knows plenty about nutrition from his personal research. So, we mostly chatted about that. I was actually surprised to find that I was the only one who has the 'immortal dream' of wanting to live forever. Others were interested in maintaining the quality of life before dying, but not actually being immortal.
How about you Ben?
Personally, I want to stay alive indefinitely and do 'sci-fi' things like intergalactic travel, become cyborg and reach currently unfathomable levels of consciousness and intelligence. I don't want the 'story of life' to end.

Hmm, sounds interesting.
I'd say my views are similar to the group's, but with a difference: I try to justify my extreme life-extension within a religious context. That said, I don't believe that religion (at least mine) prohibits aspirations towards immortality. Personally I look at it as being similar in concept to medicine.

Hope you all get some more semi-regular meetings going
Thanks Shannon. Here's a video from a recent meetup in Melbourne, Australia .
We discussed the following topics:
* Transhumanism.
* Nanotechnology.
* Immortality.
* The technological singularity.
* Life-extension.
* Artificial intelligence.
* Virtual reality.
* …and the future of sex.

My name is quentin from Belgium. I am a physist and I will be in Melbourne in a few months for work. I am very interested in question relating to biology and immortality and the opportunities to match physics with bio stuff. I would like to know if there is still an organization, like imnist chapter in Melbourne?
cheers,
quentin
