This idea is borrowed from ocforums.org
It is called Adopt a Rig.

We all know that there are some of us that have advantage doing Folding at Home. Such advantage include lower electricity cost, lower temperature in the north, free corporate electricity, etc.
It would be nice if those that have advantage of running the machine be able to adopt one, and run them 24/7. Any one that have some economics background will agree that some of us have comparative or absolute advantage at doing Folding at Home.

I am reaching a point where the heat generated by my own machines is killing my place. The AC compressor is on 24/7 but still I cannot keep the temperature down.

That is a good idea. For you personally, would you be able to have a screened in porch or anything (so the rain and whatnot don't get to it) like with a big fan blowing or would that be unfeasible? At least in the winter, you will not have to run the heater much, haha.

I tried qualifying for the "Adopt a rig" program, but I'm not sure I proved that I could provide a stable home-life.

They asked me questions about exposing the young lad (the computer) to pornography, and I said that he'd probably be the one fetching it for me.

They asked me about mail fraud, and I had to plead the fifth.
I should have stopped there, but I was compelled to add "of jack".

They asked me if I've ever beaten a family member, and I shouldn't have asked them back declaratively, "Have I ever?"

They asked me if I was current on my electric bill, and I asked if ducks had those these days.

Then they rephrased the question and asked me if I could adequately supply the lad (still the computer now) with "power", and I finished their question, "aid?" - To which they shook their heads.

So then I find out later, they proceeded to ask me about my current level of computer literacy. I shouldn't have farted during the question because all I heard was comp(brff)racy. I didn't want to appear dumb, so I quoted my favorite comedian GW, and said that I was a 'C' student.

Well, at this point I thought I had done pretty well given the circumstances, and I figured I still had the swimsuit competition, and the final interview, where I could explain about why U.S. Americans couldn't find America on a world map, because some ... ah people don't have maps to help africa and "The Iraq."

Then they said thank you, to which I replied, "Oh thankyou thankyou thankyou. You won't regret this!!!!" And then they told me, "Yeah we know."

I didn't know how to take that, but that was a year ago, and I'm still waiting to hear back, so cross your fingers, and say a prayer to the flying spaghetti monster for me.

Thanks!!!!!?

I could use a rig during the winter. Electric heat is much cheaper than natural gas nowadays.

Hey, I have ALL the above advantages!!

I operate on free institutional electricity (my university's), which I don't even pay a dime because I usually do both regular year and summer RA jobs and get free room:).

I live in Upstate New York with cool temps (especially freezing during the winter).

I have multiple sources of internet connection. My own laptop uses broadband. I got a dorm phone which is never used due to cell phones, so I can set up a dial-up connection. There are also some wireless signals in my room, from neighbors and the school's wireless networks.

My dorm's facility people installed AC for most staff/common rooms recently, which I don't turn on since summer is not hot up here and I'm usually all over campus during daytime, so I only let an electric fan blowing on my laptop.

So send the rig to me,

So send the rig to me,
and I'll take care of it like a baby;
won't do anything else (ie fetching pornography),
Will let it rip @ 100% Capacity!

We can split the UPS fee
between you and me
I can even user-name it as: Chungenhung Almighty!
A truly miraculous plan, don't you see?

With this computer rig, we can see our destiny
1st, Team Longevity Meme reaches Top Twenty!
2nd, we all achieve immortality,
3rd, we'd rule the frekking galaxy!!!

Dial up internet is definitely not feasible, due to the large GPU2 workunits.
Rigs should be crunching for about 1 yr, then it should be replaced with newer technology items. The money gained from selling the rig must be given back to the original donator, or whatever he/she seems fit.

I think due to ISP problems, master chun is not folding much for TLM, so how's the sending out rig plan working?

Depending on the rig, I can let it rip for a year, sell it and give you the money
