It would appear that this concept has some merit. :) Awesome work everyone! Should we try and raise some funds to see if we can kick this up a few notches and try busting into the top 25? I'm thinking an investment of $25,000+ annually regarding prize money would get us there and perhaps further.

Offsetting the electrical cost of some of the larger farms would certainly incent more people to move to our team or start a new farm.

Perhaps for larger prize amounts >$1000 we split the award with the individual and a favorite charity picked by the winners?

I'm all for it. Maybe an investment in some new nehalem systems (Intel i7) would help to boost our scores by up to 50%. Unfortunately there are no cheap motherboards or ddr3 sticks so it kills perf/$.

We're only top 5x in PPD, we used to be closer to the top 4x teams in PPD.

It will be interesting to see the power usage of Nehalem. It might be worth the money.

It is lower than seen in first reviews, but expensive, power-hungry and buggy enthusiast motherboards kill perf/w anyway (launches for early adopters are also known es the last stage of beta-testing and bug-fixing).
Reputable hardware testers from anandtech (btw their team is top 20 with 500k PPD) tested the platform and calculations show that nehalem can deliver 30-40% more perf/W.

I've seen a graph of IP35 and Q6600 (my set) and the difference in power draw between a non-OC'ed and 40% OC'ed set was under 20%. But because Intel is going to rip off OC'ers this time, I'm not sure if OC'ing will be useful anymore. Besides I've had stability problems lately and my OC wasn't even that great.

I'm still waiting until someone on the forum calculates how long it takes to eat up the price difference between Q6600. Maybe a year?

maestro , your goal of top 25 in 09 is good

it'll be better to get top 10 in '10 , 10by10 initiative
then top 1 in '11, one double 1 assulat, be 1
