Finally got my new rig up and running. These were the specs (I went with the EVGA 790i for a motherboard instead though as I could pop in a 3rd card down the road)

Here are the guts. (Those video cards are heavy as a brick!). This snapped together pretty easily in under an hour though getting that giant heat sink atop the cpu was a bit of a bitch.

Hooking up 3 monitors was a breeze with Vista64. 2 plug into the first card, 1 the second.

Both GX2 cards are blazing through WUs now. The instructions for getting the GPU clients working at Stanford's site were very good so getting it configured was fairly easy. These temps seem pretty high but I hear they run hot so not worried as it's helping to heat my house ;)

CPU utilization is around 26% (13% per core), 2 GB or RAM is being used (firefox, iTunes and other junk open) and performance of the system is excellent despite these running in the background.

I had no problems getting drivers and all of the above hardware up and running with Vista 64. I had heard lots of horror stories and was fence sitting 'til now but it seems like Microsoft and most of the hardware manufacturers have worked out a majority of the kinks. Next weekend I'll play around with overclocking the video cards after seeing how they do this week on the PPD.

This will help you get an idea of the power consumption.

This setup cranked out 20 work units 9,600 points in 24 hours running with just 2 of the 4 cores (one per GX2).

I fired up the other two cores today. Temps went way up to 85 for one of the cards so I had to crank the fan for that card up a bit.

Should crank out about 20k PPD ;)

Wow, you won't have to run your heat this winter; That rig can heat your home sufficiently. :)

Some call them "Toasters".

Maestro, your new rig will help push the team forward.

Your PPD exhibits characteristics of a "Singularity".

Guess it must be near.
