Pike:
What dose of Deprenyl do you take/recommend for ADHD?

Does anyone know the dosing at which deprenyl would become harmful to ones health or lifespan?

What an interesting thread.

One question I never see answered about Deprenyl is the impact it has on the long term. I have read some scary accounts of people taking this stuff and then months down the line it ceases to work or tolerance rapidly progresses. Surely this is the case with any drug you take though as after a while your body will compensate for anything that is in excess. I am yet to take something continuously that doesn't at least loose some effectiveness over time. It would concern me more with Deprenyl as its a irreversible MAOI which would mean weeks of apathy, joyless depression followed by a period where your body adjusts to becoming normal again. By which stage you're back to square one but probably still feel worse because you remember how good life was on Deprenyl. So you then search for something else and the endless journey for the perfect fix continues.

I can site a previous user known as da_sense who had amazing success with Deprenyl but months down the line he encountered what I've described above but on a heavy scale which didn't sound pleasant in the slightest. You can find his posts in the search section.

Maybe I'm talking bull. I would be delighted to ACTUALLY hear from people who are long term users who have success/or not. They never seem to show their faces. Speak up! ;)

The reason I am interested is because the benefits do sound pretty amazing. I am currently taking Memantine which is showing great promise and once this has settled I am considering Bupripion or Deprenyl.

I suffer with GAD and lingering apathetic depression issues. I feel I'm about 80% there at the moment with the things I have found on here but motivation is the final scalp I want to nail. Memantine has had quite a stimulating effect on me so far so has given me an insight into what I can be (if I fix this issue).

I've been on it for close to two months and can't tell if it's had any effect. My mood, sleepiness, motivation, irritability etc are at different places than when I started, but those tend to constantly change anyhow, making it hard to tell if drug/supplements ever work.

I'm going to go off it today and see if I begin noticing any differences though.

Selegiline never made me sleepy. However the first few nights were more difficult to fall asleep.

I took 5mg per day for over a year without any negative side effects. Going off it was easy and I just eneded up forgetting to take it and didn't cross my mind when my presription ran out. (taking tablet form) Ordered the liquid selepryl and took that for a few months and went off for a bit and I have ordered another bottle and going on it was fine again, no side effects at all. I intend to stay on this permanently.

As I work 2 full time jobs I suspected my lack of motivation and my flat emotions were a result of low dopamine levels. Now I am adventurous, have much heightened emotions, much more motivated, and think to myself for no reason at all how good life is. This is taking 5mg per day, but I will taper this off to eventually 1-2mg per day

I wouldn't say I was 'depressed' before. Just flat and uncaring about everything going on. I think MAO-B inhibitors should be looked at for more than just parkinsons disease as I think it can help out with other problems as well.

Isn;t there a rebound effect on deprenyl?

I heard that taking daily doses will eventually cause dopamine overload, causing down regulation, fatigue and headaches.. which i actually got after a week of dosing at 5mg a day.
It has been said that 1.25mg to be taken daily to reach around 10-15mg per Week, this way optimal effects are kept.

Is sleepiness a fairly common side effect from Deprenyl? I was going to buy some this afternoon but after I stumbled across this thread, I'm not so sure. I was thinking that it promoted wakefulness.

Used to make me stimulated. Started using it again and it makes me too tired to do anything.

Deprenyl made me sleepy for about a week or so before it started having the opposite effect on me. I still think it has a somewhat stimulating effect on me even though I'm down to 1 mg now.

Point is: I would give deprenyl/selegiline some time (at least two weeks or so) before I drew any conclusions regarding this.

I appreciate your thread on low dosage dep. It's really helpful.

Some of this advice to persist with the unpleasant initial effects in order to make it to the other side is suspect IMHO. There are reports of people putting themselves into a fairly dark place by pursuing that strategy. A giveaway indicator is postural hypotension (ie, seeing stars upon standing), often accompanied by an erratic heartbeat, and if it is accompanied by depression then stop right there. What should be done to mitigate the sides is to lower either the dose or the frequency and to workup a bit slower.

I typically take 1-5 mgs sublingually which brings on the cognitive sharpening effects quickly. Sometimes I have some sleepiness some hours later. I have a history of CFS and genetically or through a modernly excessive lifestyle, my adrenals and/or HPA axis are somewhat fried. Morning cortisol is OK, but frequently low in the afternoon, with or without deprenyl. So I get a little sleepy. I suspect the deprenyl temporarily raises cortisol, epinephrine, NE, and then one or more of them tend to crash some hours later. I'd bet this is related to some people's deprenyl sleepiness, but am curious as to the question, if it makes you sleepy, when? Soon after taking it? I feel better quickly but crash later? Don't notice any stimulating effect but get sleepy later? Or me: Feel great shortly after taking it; may or may not get sleepy later; typically fall asleep fine, but frequently wake up way too early; if repeated on a daily basis the lack of sufficient and/or deep/restful sleep causes me to stop taking it on a regular basis; still love it occasionally: appreciate the fact that taking it only occasionally makes the effect when I take it that much more dramatic/salient--OH MY GOD THIS IS MY BRAIN ON VIAGRA.
