Yes, it should be lowered, for all the reasons you stated. Also many other countries who have a drinking age of 18 have lower rates of alcohol related crimes (DUI, etc.) I think lowering the legal age to 18 would keep people from feeling so restricted before turning 21 only to start binging and developing alcoholism afterward.

That depends how you define , " crime " .

I dont think lowering will help any more than increasing , the problem is it being sold altogether , and marketed the way it is ( esp in the uk )

Its no secret that most people drink for a reason more than from the pure enjoyment itself, if that werent the case then you wouldnt have so many bars , clubs using it as means of exploiting peoples basic desire to go there and find volunteers ( less coherent the better )

As long as people lust for sex, and as long as alcohol / media contributes to that dalliance by being sold and made cheap ( much like sex ) is it any wonder countries like the uk have epidemic of underage single mothers living on benefits ?

People say its not a risk ( maybe in low amounts ) but therein lies the problem , because it only gives them even more reason to abuse it, and then blame the drug itself for any wrongdoings it causes .

If that isnt recipe for chaos then what is ?

Cannabis in comparison has nowhere near the same amount of related deaths ( although i admit its abused too ) it does not promote violence or rage but introspection , the trouble is that sometimes that reveals things you dont like it - esp if your the sort who likes to abuse drugs to start with ( basically most of the western world )

The idea that all drugs are the same and looped and stuck together bothers me too because you couldn't find any more polar example of a drug taker in people, who say use them to heal and "spiritual " purposes , as opposed to others who use them candidly an escape or an excuse for their own shortcomings.

Drugs are tools, not sweeties you can abuse , thats where alcohol has its identity crisis and yet is excused , because of course sex sells and = $$$

In short then sex , or rather others need to exploit it is the problem which takes us right back to t he one problem thats at the root of everything MONEY or more importantly what it brings.

It should either be lowered to 18, or the obligations of adulthood should be raised to 21 (or whatever arbitrary age we decide to confer citizenship at).

A group of girls going out for a night on the town would be a lot safer than the frat parties the current system funnels them into.

At the very least, a person should be allowed to drink if they're serving in the armed forces. Old enough to die, but not old enough for a beer? Bullshit. I friend of mine, 20 years old, a soldier only a few weeks back from Iraq, was ticketed for possession of alcohol and the judge actually had the gall to thank him for his service before sentencing him.
