If no 5-HTP and L-DOPA is consumed, does the egcg inhibit body stores of 5-HTP and L-DOPA? Would this lead to less serotonin and dopamine in the Peripheral Nervous System?

I know that 5-HTP & L-DOPA inhibitors are useful if 5-HTP and L-DOPA are a part of the diet, as too much L_DOPA and 5-HTP is bad for the PNS.

As another person mentioned, does 5-HTP and L-DOPA inhibition mean that they cannot be converted into Dopamine/Serotonin? Or does it stop them metabolising in the body, thus greatly increasing the potency?

Bumping an old thread, sorry. Very good read though.

I used to drink green tea for years (7-8) a big cup (0,5 litre = 17.59 ounces) in the morning. Usually a teaspoon or two of green tea, mostly chinesse. Green tea has always had good effect for me (energy & concentration).

Been suffering from depression and anxiety for years, last two years I have been treated. Now off any meds, taking only homeopatic drugs.

Now after a split with my gf, very deep anxiety set in (7 days) . I drinking green tea previously, just to follow some advice from people saying that amount of green tea is "unhealthy". Feel immediate loss of energy, extreme anxiety.... Not sure if caused by emotional loss or by deficit of green tea.

Will continue drinking green tea from tomorrow and see if it helps me in any way... will post here if I see any changes after few days.

What is your opinion on such extensive green tea drinking?

That doesn't sound like an unhealthy amount of green tea. Did you mean to say that you *quit* drinking green tea? That's what I inferred from the rest of your post, but I think you left out a word. At any rate, if you're depressed or anxious now, I suspect it's mostly due to splitting up with the gf and stopping your meds. I wouldn't be surprised if not drinking green tea, particularly since you are used to a large amount, is also contributing to your depression. Green tea extract has antidepressant properties, in my experience. Let us know how you feel after resuming the tea.

I wouldn't regard that as excessive at all, poeple who say that obviously don't have a clue. A half a liter is rather low by Chinese and Japanese standards. I drink about 1 liter most days (in addition to a half a liter of coffee) and consider that a healthy habit.

If you still have trouble, you should try St. John's Wort: an extract providing 10-15mg hyperforin, split in two doses. You could add some Ginkgo (~200mg of a 1:10 extract) for its anxiolytic properties and Valerian at night if you have trouble sleeping. Look for extracts that match the German Commision E guidelines.

all you people have hyper-reactive dopamine systems.  when the levels go up at first it is good, but with time your body adjusts.. you feel depressed, boring and tired, as though you've just eaten a turkey dinner.  you might not react to tea the same way every day, such is life.  my conclusion is that tea is for boring people, because it makes them more lively and energetic (except when it makes them duller, and then theyve just had bad luck)

even thou newer research supports the BBB permability of EGCG[1], epicatechin and others are also able to inhibit dopamine uptake and metabolism
