Does anybody know of anybody we can contact that might have some cash to buy those books for the last round? I have to get them out asap.

Just let me know how much and how.

If your interested in helping send books out at this time, then we would need this book here, the Scientific Conquest of Death, sent out to three addresses that I have here.

If your interested for sure then let me know and Ill send you the addresses. I sent them out, out of my pocket, for some of the last rounds. I know its a bit of money, but we feel its well, well worth it, and if you do then of course, we will be very thankful for your generosity and further demonstration of commitment to the cause. We will be working on getting a grant for some future rounds, hopefully starting next month.

I'd like to go over letters. We've gone over before the importance of keeping them short. I can also add my name to a letter, with some of the things I do such as PTA, church, parenting etc. Thank you David for your offer to write a letter (there is a template of a short & personalized letter that I wrote in the following thread: http://www.imminst.o...ion-t33662.html )

Let's also add Dr. Sanjay Gupta (if we haven't already done so) to the VIP list. He's very popular and apparently a life extension supporter.

For the front page (of imminst) I was thinking to put an articile (more like a list) of gift ideas relating to longevity (books, our top recommended supps, imminst t-shirts, etc).

We could have an image like this, or one with imminst stuff on

My offering follows.

It's based on keeping things short and sweet, and also on a five-step sales pitch (Intro, Presentation, Short Story, Close, Rehash). Opening is deliberately informal as that seems to be her style. The "close" is written with her new age spiritualist self-help mentality in mind.

I've also made a few positive sandwiches, of the kind that takes into account what psychology calls primacy and recency effect, and ordered things accordingly.

I've also placed an emphasis on what's in it for her, since most people operate (consciously or otherwise) from a "What's In It For Me?" bias. I've also made it very clear from the presentation that I'm writing with an "offer", not a "request". Someone as rich and famous as her must have ridiculous stacks of requests very often. It needs to be clear from the onset that we're not after her money or what-have-you. While her money would be nice, it never ever pays to ask a rich person that you don't even know for money. They have to offer it. This is why I don't mention money at all. What we want is publicity, and I sandwich even that in between comments of what we will bring to her - and that without patronising at all. After all, with her fame and money, she doesn't need us. But we can still "add value" to her life, and that's what someone needs to understand to get the "buy" impulse (even if as in this case, it's simply buying an idea, rather than a product or service).

People "buy" a sales pitch for a very few main reasons, and the ones I've incorporated in this have been indifference (ie, it's best if the salesperson doesn't sound like they're desperate for the sale), greed (what's in it for you), and fear of loss (we're offering something you won't really find outside of our community).

For good measure, I've also thrown in some Dale Carnegie stuff; use of name, show of sincere appreciation, personal touch throughout and especially in the close, focus at least as much as what's going her way as ours.

As a further note, I think the contact details should not be below the signature, but in the top-right. I also think that the phone number should be one that can certainly be well-answered, and the email address should be a sendersnamehere@imminst.org address. If you were an international star, would it seem odd to you to respond to a random @yahoo.com address or somesuch regarding something relating to business like this? At least possibly, so I'd avoid it.

Anyway, I expect I'm preaching to the choir here, so I hope you'll forgive me - I'm thinking out loud as much as anything else.

Without further ado, here is my considered offering:

Dear Oprah,

I hope all is well with you.

I was impressed with your recent show featuring "extreme life extension". As science is progressing rapidly in this area, I'm writing with an offer on behalf of one of the foremost organisations of this field, the Immortality Institute.

The Immortality Institute is an international non-profit organisation whose mission is "to conquer the blight of involuntary death". What's more, we're making significant headway.

Given your intelligence and interests, we imagine you can see what we could bring to each other. One huge thing that would benefit the Immortality Institute is good publicity, someone like you pointing out to people that life is good, and worth fighting for. This in turn would not only make for some ground-breaking television, but also hopefully also further enrich and enhance your own life. This is assuming that these are all things that you would like.

In short, we can bring this to you, and you can help us just by being involved. By all means, please do get in touch if you would like to discuss this proposal further.

Warm regards,

Eternally,

David you're a genius my boy! Very good letter...not sure if I love the bluntness of "what we could bring to each other." Seems maybe, something like, "Given your intelligence and passion for life, we imagine you might really support this cause...etc" Also definitely mention that we aim to bring longer life to the poor and oppressed...or in short for everyone, since she is big into equal rights, and that is the target of her philanthropy, poor countries.

Good that you caught the email problem! Yes it makes much more sense to say @imminst.org than our own personal accounts.

By the way Dr. Sanjay Gupta interviewed Aubrey on CNN, along with another more practically based life extensionist, who DID support Aubrey's mission, and said he too would like to live up till 200 years.

Yup I'll post Sommers, Oprah's, and Damon's contact info....On a side not I hate it when celebs say stuff like Zack Braff said on Conan. He said, "well I know I'll die," to a comment, as if he never thought of ending the aging process? How can people be so f ing stupid?

I thought about this at age 5.

So let's send out the Oprah letter as soon as we all can agree on a final edit, then I'll write a similar letter for Sommers and Damon...

We all must agree on a final version. We can't mention charitable donations, we can't seem like we have already solved the aging problem, but we do have to explain that this stuff is being worked on so stupid idiotic celebs won't continue to say stupid deathist comments like Mr. Braff.

Take whatever path to reach the months goals that you guys want, but I suggest writing all three letters first and then sending them out. Do we have a volunteer to make calls?

We also need the addresses.

Theres an outline for how we progress through these monthly goals. Its listed in a variety of topics.... Ok, I just now posted it in its own topic and pinned it in the VIP Outreach forum. http://www.imminst.o...o...=36213&st=0

I can't find Oprah's address, right now I'm going to start to write the Damon letter...by the way Woody Allen has mentioned in interviews since the 70's how afraid of death he is plus so many of his movies focus on the subject. But not great publicity.

How is that Damon letter coming along? So you have the one address, no luck on the other two? So who will send these out this month then? Who ever does will need to take it upon themself to wrap these up, put the finishing touchs on things, get a phone number on them, and stamp and envelope and send.

Either Fowler or I will have these sent out by the end of this month.

Does anybody want to offer to send out the books for this month? I dont have money for it right now.

We have improved in some areas this month and I think we will come along even further for next months goals. Keep up the work and committment everybody, thanks a million.

Shannon, please do review the letters posted here, give feedback and revisions etc..

Morganator, we will be getting a hold of you for contact info and mock call practice. If anybody else wants to be a part of the telephone portion of these outreachs then let us know. We have a lot of hopes in getting through to more people with this team, we really think we are going to be able to make an impact here.

My letter to Matt Damon

Dear Mr. Damon,

My name is Devon Fowler, and I'm with the non-profit human life extension organization, imminst.org, short for the Immortality Institute. We decided to contact you because you have always come across as an open minded and free thinking individual. Basically we want to get you interested, if you are not already, in the concept of real human life extension potentially within our lifetimes.

This means living not to 80, but 100, 150 even several hundred years, mostly due to the intervention of stem cell technologies and other rejuvenation therapies which includes the exciting field of genetic engineering.

We are a very serious and scientifically based group of over 8000 members some of who are leading researchers in biotechnology, bioengineering, and many hybrids of these fields including bio-gerontology or the study of human aging from a biological standpoint.

Just to clue you in, we are not looking for any charitable donations! We really are looking to inform people, and as project manager for the VIP team I think contacting big name celebrities such as you will bring clout to this cause of all causes. 150,000 people die of Aging everyday in the world, and it maybe even more now. To us this is unacceptable. Some say interfering with the “natural” process of aging is interfering with the natural order of things. Well if that's true than human's have interfered with the “natural” order of things ever since we started to cure any diseases! I hope you see my point.

Some of the most exciting research into slowing down, halting, and even reversing the aging process in humans is being run by British Gerontologist Dr. Aubrey De Grey, who formed the SENS research foundation to use a ground up engineering approach to combat the 7 causes of aging.

I have many links and articles that I can give you if you are interested in what we are doing. In light of this I would also like to formerly invite you to one of our online talk shows called Sunday Evening Update which runs 6:00 pm on Sundays here at imminst.org in an online chat format. We've had many notable scientists, speakers, enthusiasts chat on our program including Dr. De Grey himself, famous biologist Michael Rose, Ray Kurzweil's private doctor and many more.

You don't have to be knowledgeable at all in any anti-aging sciences or philosophies, we are really looking for bright people like yourself who could offer your time to learn, even briefly, about this cause. Enclosed is (whatever book Portal wants), that I hope you'll find time to read.

I look forward to hearing back from you!

Sincerely,
Devon Fowler

Hi Devon,

Thanks for writing this :)

I've made some tweaks that I hope you find acceptable:

Dear Mr. Damon,

My name is Devon Fowler, and I'm with the non-profit human life extension organization, imminst.org, short for the Immortality Institute. Paragraph break added here to give a second's value to the name.

We decided to contact you because you have always come across as an open minded and free thinking individual. Basically we want to get you interested, if you're not already, in the concept of real human life extension within our lifetimes. Removed the word "potentially". Since we're talking about a concept here, there's no need to add the "potentially". We are trying to interest people in the concept of real human life extension within our lifetimes - no need to disclaimer it as it's a concept, not an actuality

This means living healthily *Added this word not just Added this word to 80, but 100, 150 even several hundred years, mostly due to the intervention of stem cell technologies and other rejuvenation therapies which includes the exciting field of genetic engineering. Time is what we need to defeat death. Added this last line, to make it clear firstly that the point of the letter is not "Money is what we need to defeat death", and secondly to include the possibility of actually defeating death, not merely delaying it.

We are a very serious and scientifically based group of over 8,000 members some of who are leading researchers in biotechnology, bioengineering, and many hybrids of these fields including bio-gerontology or the study of human aging from a biological standpoint.

Well if that's true then Corrected typo from "than" humans Removed incorrect apostrophe have interfered with the “natural” order of things ever since we started to cure any diseases! I am sure that you appreciate this point, though. Rephrased this last line to assume his intelligence, and also make it the point rather than my point. Say "my" in a context like that, and you'll look like a one-man-army, which while sometimes laudable isn't the impression we want to give.

Some of the most exciting research into slowing down, halting, and even reversing the aging process in humans is being run by British Gerontologist Dr. Aubrey De Grey, who formed the SENS research foundation to use a ground up engineering approach to combat each of the seven causes of aging. *Slight rephrase for style

I have many links and articles that I can give you if you are interested in what we are doing. In light of this I would also like to formally Edit for spelling - "formerly" means "previously" invite you to one of our online talk shows, called "Sunday Evening Update", Edit for subordinate clause and inverted commas, lest it all run together which runs 6:00 pm on Sundays at imminst.org changed from "here at imminst.org - contrary to appearances, we people, including you, actually exist in the offline world in an online chat format. We've had many notable scientists, speakers, enthusiasts chat on our program including Dr. De Grey himself, famous biologist Michael Rose, Ray Kurzweil's private doctor and many more. Could you please include some non-scientific celebrities in this? Otherwise he's left thinking "Yeah, but what am I going to talk about?".

You don't have to be knowledgeable at all in any anti-aging sciences or philosophies, we are really looking for bright people like yourself who could omitted "offer your time to" - this is to take emphasis away from it being a burden on him and his schedule learn, even briefly, about this cause. Enclosed is (whatever book Portal wants), which I hope you'll find time to read.

I look forward to hearing back from you!

I can do in cases where my British phone number will not be a problem. If it's people calling us, then it's poor to ask Americans (for example) to dial a foreign number. People are much less likely to make overseas calls than domestic ones, no matter what their income bracket. It's also a matter of commonly distrusting that which isn't based in one's own country.

Alright, we want to improve on these, we want to work out better and better letters and continue to bring more writers on board here. These are workable, they might even come across great. Its the end of the month. Send these out today or tomorrow Fowler and let me know right away so we can wrap this all up. We are on track to complete another successful month. So good work sticking with it.

Some of the most exciting research into slowing down, halting, and even reversing the aging process in humans is being run by British Gerontologist Dr. Aubrey De Grey, who formed the SENS research foundation to use a ground up engineering approach to combat each of the seven causes of aging.

I have many links and articles that I can give you if you are interested in what we are doing. In light of this I would also like to formally invite you to one of our online talk shows, called "Sunday Evening Update", which runs 6:00 pm on Sundays at imminst.org in an online chat format. We've had many notable scientists, speakers, enthusiasts chat on our program including Dr. De Grey himself, famous biologist Michael Rose, Ray Kurzweil's private doctor, and many more.

You don't have to be knowledgeable at all in any anti-aging sciences or philosophies, we are really looking for bright people like yourself who could learn, even briefly, about this cause. We are sending a free copy of our book the Scientific Conquest of Death as well, which I hope you'll find time to read.

I look forward to hearing back from you!

Warm regards,

Sincerely,
Devon Fowler

Dear Suzanne,

Thank you for your time to read my letter. It is a wonderful sunny afternoon here in London. With my letter I wish you that our youthful sunny days would last for a long time.

I noticed your care and interest in the field of keeping people young and healthy with bioidentical hormone replacement therapy. We have so far very few entertainment industry individuals among us and we know that without media attention it is not easy for people to recognize and accept the cultural changes which the medical science is ready to bring to us. We need your help in breaking the ice for the society to be able to accept, that it is inevitable that in 15 – 20 years our life-spans are significantly longer if not infinite. Sometimes we have award ceremonies, web-tv programs, conferences, and other events in the US and abroad, and we would like to ask your permission for contacting you to invite you to participate on some occasions. I think media coverage can be mutually beneficial even if people are very successful as many of our members are.

Here is Aubrey de Grey talk www.vimeo.com/7339349, which helps to visualize the possibilities of the future. Please decide without a bias if this issue is important. We are keen to work at this inevitable future as catalyzing the process now can also benefit us and not just our children.

Warm regards,

Sincerely,
Devon Fowler

David I actually feel embarrassed having written that letter so poorly! You are a great wordsmith and you immediately saw the changes that were necessary to make...I'm more than impressed. Sorry most of the mistakes I made were because I wrote the letter so fast. But excellent changes and tell me if you need help with the money...

thanks a million!

Are books on the way to Sommers? If not I'll gladly order SCOD myself and send it to her plus any other recommendations you guys might have.

I guess Paul Hughes, one of our guests, is a good example of a non-scientific person, more an enthusiast. If you guys can think of other people that these celebs could better relate to, that would be fantastic.

Not from me. I was waiting on the address, still. If you have it and are happy to send, then by all means go ahead and do so!

Thanks :)

Fowler can you send the copy of scod to that Sommers address? Can both of you be sure to send them through the imminst amazon store you can find at imminst.org/store - I think it gives us some kind of statistics that help our store, and give us a meager commission off of sales.

Yes please send us both an invite to that doc. My email is brokenportal@gmail.com

I just sent the pamphlet to a vote, so if that passes then we can use it next time.

Most importantly right now though is, Fowler, do you have three stamps, 3 envelopes, a way to print those final drafts I posted last, and a way to get to an outgoing mailbox today?

By the way incase any of you havent seen this,

Attached File  Somers_on_Life_Extension_Magazine_cover.jpg   14.76KB   9 downloads

This is a great pick Vgamer. If we can get a letter and or a book in to her hands I think theres a lot of potential there.

Sorry distracted last couple of days, no excuse I know. Um I have 3 envelopes and sure will send out letters today. I'll go to the store and buy the SCOD book but I'd prefer to buy Ending Aging, as I think it's a more interesting book in some ways.

So styles sent books and just books out to Damon and Oprah, I guess I assumed he was going to send the letters too. My bad.

So Portal I sent you out a pm I sent a copy of Ending Aging to Somers and I could print out the letters but if you could before tonight that would be better because I won't have a pc hooked up to a printer until tonight.

Also what about phone calls? Should we be following up with agents, publicists and managers with a phone call asking if they received the letters?

As the letters had your name at the bottom, it seemed to me likely that you would be the one signing and sending them.

I'm perfectly happy to send letters if desired, with the caveat that if writing to America then transatlantic airmail will add five working days to delivery time.
