I've had some libido issues for almost a year now. After one week on resveratrol I noticed a pretty decent increase. After three weeks I feel almost back to the way I used to when I was younger. There have been a few other changes in my diet and supplements but I can only assume the resveratrol is responsible for most of the change I have noticed. It seems to have an effect on drive as well as a minor cialis type effect. I found a study showing such an effect on rabbit corpus cavernosum tissue, I'll try to dig it up if anyone is that interested.

Has anyone else noticed this effect from resveratrol? I'm wondering if it is due to the effect on T:E ratio.

Resveratrol is an anti-aromatase, blocking conversion of testosterone to estrogen, so you may be noticing the effect of more free testosterone.

I've always had an extremely low sex drive... so I figured anything should show an improvement.

But so far, over a year on RSV, I've noticed no difference. (need to get my T levels checked I think...)

But different strokes for different folks...

Yes, I'm pretty sure I've been more horny since beginning rsv and, if possible, my erections have been even harder.

Hi Chaos Theory,

How much Resveratrol are you taking? I take 400 mg* in the AM and have not noticed any difference in libido.

*going up to 500 mg on Oct. 1.

I havent noticed any overt changes either and Ive been taking a moderately high dose for over 6 months. In some individuals it may make them feel a bit better and this, as a placebo effect, may enhance libido as well as other things. Just my thoughts

I wonder if this "side effect" may also be attributed to non-resveratrol substances in low purity preparations? Since I've been taking high purity (99% or greater) extracts or synthetic RSV, I've noticed no perceivable effects whatsoever, despite multiple grams/day intake.

Thanks for posting that, it could very well be true, but unless there is data we dont know. I havent heard of synthetic Resveratrol before where did you run across it and how long have you been taking Resveratrol? Did you feel any sense of increased stamina, weight loss of fat?

Synthetic RSV was used in David Sinclair's Nature published rodent studies. AFAIK, it's still available from pharmaceutical manufacturers.

I've always been fairly fit and thin (BMI 19 to 20, variably). I can't say for sure RSV had made any difference in my stamina or weight, though.

Resveratrol is a fairly simple molecule that can be synthesized chemically. It can also be extracted from Knotweed, and more recently it is being produced in large fermentation tanks by genetically modified bacteria. The difference between the three sources will lie only in their contaminant profiles.

Yes, I think you may be onto something here. I have also noticed a boost in libido as well. It didn't occur right away. I would say maybe 4-6 weeks after taking 250mg micronized ResV per day. I also take Pycnogenol, so I'm not sure if it is just due to the ResV, or because I'm taking a combination of the two.

How much Pycnogenol and what is the source of it? Is it a Grape seed extract?

Might be the Pycnogenol. Here's two papers from Pubmed. Not actually toptier journals but then getting these results published might be difficult.
Note, Prelox is a form of pycnogenol. Maybe we should ask the author, Dr. Stanislavov if they use Pycnogenol.......

Improvement of erectile function with Prelox: a randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled, crossover trial.

Treatment of erectile dysfunction with pycnogenol and L-arginine.

Adding similar data point.

I am not taking Pycnogenol, and have hardly had 10 doses of it in the past year.

As I said in the post linked below, "...my sex drive has exploded, starting roughly a week after doubling resveratrol [98% purity, from 500 to 1000mg/d]. Possible causes: resveratrol itself, the increase in caloric intake, or better sleep. Qualitatively, it's back to where it was before I descended into sleep apnea. I mention this because I've noticed other people suggesting a resveratrol connection. (This would be surprising, considering that CR definitely decreases sex drive. But it's probably worthy of more analysis with more data points.)"

When I doubled the resveratrol, I simultaneously stopped taking grape extract (from Life Extension Foundation, previously one pill per day), in order to reduce excessive blood clotting time.

So in my case, it's clear that neither Pycnogenol nor grape extract is the source of the libido effect.

Sorry for neglecting the thread, there wasn't much interest initially and I forgot about it.

When I first noticed the effect I was using 500mg in the morning mixed in with my protein shake. The RevGenetics brand 98-99% purity regular trans-resveratrol. I also started grape seed extract around the same time, and I had been using selegiline for a very long time at low doses.

The effect was never acute. It took a while to build up. I can't say whether it is directly from the resveratrol itself or due to overall better health, increased mood, or even placebo.

Indeed I have noticed a huge boost in libido since starting to take res 3 weeks ago. I'm taking a lighweight dose of 300 mg/day of the tran resv. If Resv does increase free test levels that would go a long way in explaining this sudden boost.

I have not notice any libido effects from taking resveratrol. When I was in middle school I remember a friend tells me that his mother warns him about eating hard-boiled egg can cause errection. Decades had pasted since I last thought about it until few weeks ago. I ate 2 boiled eggs around midnight and woke at 7 a.m. just to find out something else has been up before me. I don't know what the connection is with boiled egg and libido, but if you don't like taking pills and prefer it in the morning then this is worth trying.

Nocturnal tumescense is normal for men, particularly in the mornings when test levels are highest. I think that Resveratrol and Quercetin can help in these areas to some degree. The hard boiled eggs experience may have been auto-suggestive, were you thinking about what your friends mother said prior to eating them? interesting anecdote though, thanks for posting!

Resveratrol can act as a modulator of other medications.

If you take Viagra, Cialis or anything that causes an erection ur Res dose might increase the efficacy.
Also, be careful taking Res with heart medications or cholesterol medications.

Good posting Bix! As a person that hasnt used ED meds I didnt think of that. I think the same advice would go for any medications or rec. drugs of any type, even hormones, when Taking Resveratrol.
