This should be an email and include many more links. The emails will be the longer ones.

Dear celebs name,

We're with the human longevity organization imminst.org, which stands for the Immortality Institute for Research into Indefinite Lifespans. We are starting a campaign to get people, like yourself, interested in the very real prospect of achieving radically longer life spans in the next 20 to 50 years. Basically there is now alot of research into slowing down, halting or even reversing the human aging process. In order to do this we are focusing in on two key areas. One is the MPrize which is a prize given to whomever can keep a mouse alive the longest. And the second is SENS Foundation; which is a foundation setup to utilize an engineering approach to combat the aging process.

I should tell you we are NOT looking necessarily for charitable donations at this time. Our mission, really, is to inform people like yourself who might be a good representative for the human longevity cause. We really want to inform people that there is something currently being done about ending human aging in our lifetime. We really want to hear your opinions on human life extension whether positive or negative. How might you benefit from a much longer life? Aging really is a degenerative disease that should be fought and ultimately cured just like any other disease such as Cancer, Aids, Diabetes, and Heart Disease. 150 years ago people only lived an average of 40 years. This is because they died of diseases that we can easily cure today.

We've also included a copy of Dr. Degrey's book entitiled Ending Aging. It has all the information you'll need to better understand aging and the SENS approach to the human aging problem. We would also be very grateful if you could attend one of our Sunday Evening Chats on our website imminst.org. We feature prominent scientists, imminst members, and progressive thinkers who sometimes call themselves Transhumanists on our Sunday online chat forum every Sunday. We want to hear what you have to say about your thoughts on living longer and how you feel your life could be improved if we could extend our lives by a much longer time frame. (maybe we can mention our book here.)

We realize this is probably mostly new news for you as there is not that much press so far for radical life extension. However we have made some good strides. Aubrey De Grey author of the book we included and founder and creator of SENS, was featured on 20/20 with Barbra Walters in their special "How to live to 150." Dr. Degrey was also featured on a smaller segment of the Colbert Report. It is our belief here at imminst that we only need to spread the word about aging to get it to become more talked about and to see real results as soon as possible. And of course the next big step will be funding projects and seeing actual results.

We appreciate your time and we here at imminst believe whether we live to only 80 years or much much longer is up to people like yourselves and scientists getting on board and doing something about this problem! 100,000 people die of old age everyday and if we can do something about it we think that this is the ethical and right thing to do. Most people I've talked to say they would want to extend their lives by quite a large margin and maybe even live indefinitely. Just think of all the things we could be doing with extended lives that we simply don't have time for now! We believe that this is going to be the norm as death should not be so easily accepted in civilized society.

Thank your for your time!

This is virtually the same letter plus two links. I'm only compiling the letters we have to date.

Dear celebs name,

Wer'e with the human longevity organization imminst.org, which stands for the Immortality Institute for Research into Indefinite Lifespans. We are starting a campaign to get people like yourself interested in the very real prospect of achieving radically longer life spans in the next 20 to 50 years. Basically there is emerging research into slowing down, halting or even reversing the human aging process. In order to do this we are focusing on a few key areas. One is trying to see how long scientists can keep a mouse alive for. This initiative is part of a research study that is going on now which is being done at an organization called The Methuselah Foundation. Here is there website. http://www.methusela...ions_membership We've already raised X amount of dollars for this cause. If we are successful in prolonging the life span of a mouse than we have another project we are working on called SENS Foundation which is a project run by Dr. Aubrey De Grey, a biogerentologist out of Enlgand, who has come up with a way of engineering an approach to comabat what he calls the 7 causes of aging in humans. Here is there website. http://www.sens.org/

This is going to be an expansive project that will require quite a bit of fundraising. I should tell you we are NOT looking necessarily for charitable donations at this time. Our mission, really, is to inform people like yourself who might be a good representative for the human longevity cause. We really want to inform people that there is something currently being done about ending human aging in our lifetime. We think aging is a degenerative disease that should be fought and ultimately cured just like any other disease such as Cancer, Aids, Diabetes, and Heart Disease. 150 years ago people only lived an average of 40 years. This is because they died of diseases that we can easily cure today. As I said aging can be thought of also as a disease that leave people's minds and bodies frail and suspeptible to the diseases of old age that will eventually kill them.

We've also included a copy of Dr. Degrey's book entitiled Ending Aging. It has all the basic information you'll need to better understand this new approach to the human aging problem. We would also be very grateful if you could attend one of our Sunday Evening Chats on our website imminst.org. We feature prominent scientists, imminst members, and radical thinkers who sometimes call themselves Transhumanists on our Sunday online chat forum every Sunday. We want to hear what you have to say about your thoughts on living longer and the prospect of how you feel your life could be improved if we even could live longer or even indefinitely. (maybe we can mention our book here.)

We realize this is probably all new news for you as there is not that much press so far for radical life extension. However we have made some good strides. Aubrey was featured on 20/20 with Barbra Walters in their special "How to live to 150." Dr. Degrey was also featured on a smaller segment of the Colbert Report. It is our belief here at imminst that we only need to spread the word as to what is currently being done in the field of aging to get Americans and the rest of the world to see that something can indeed be done to prolong our life span in a realistic and hopefully rather short time frame. And of course the big step will be funding and seeing empirical results.

We appreciate your time and we here at imminst believe whether we live to only 80 or much much longer is up to people like yourselves and scientists getting on board and doing something about this problem. 100,000 people die of old age everyday and if we can do something about it we think that this is an ethical and right thing to do. Most people I've talked to say they would want to extend their lives by quite a large margin and mabye even live indefintiely or as long as they want to. We believe that this is going to be the norm as death should not be so easily tolerated anymore in civilized society.

Thank your for your time!

This is Portal's version of a similar email.

Hello,

(Example of a personalized opener, "Hello Dr. Kaku, we chat about you around our longevity forums all the time. We work with advocacy and research for unlimited lifspans. Your work is inspiring in its depth, and in its integration of various fields. Some of us see you as a transhuman pioneer. You would fit right in with our discussions really.")

We want to chat with you about this cause on our growing internet show called the Sunday Evening Update. Call me and we will set it up. You may not have heard of the work surrounding unlimited lifespans yet, but it’s the cause of all causes, the most monumental cause ever undertaken in the history of humanity, and as it grows, you will hear about it more and more.

We can and are working more and more to increase our healthy lifespans indefinitely by ending the aging process and the horrible. debilitating, dream crushing related diseases that come along with it. A process of damage accumulation that kills 100,000 people per day, costs billions of dollars per year and causes diseases like cancer and Parkinsons to name a few. We actively combat these things in a cause that can win, with radical research strategies like SENS, and fields like stem cells and nanotechnology.

In the past few years this cause has been in the news, and has been on shows like 60 minutes and the Barbara Walters Special to name a few. We provide links to these things in an email we have also sent you. Also see ImmInst.org, sens.org, coalitiontoextendlife.org and longevitymeme.org to name a few. Contact us at the ImmInst.org forums. We do not, mean vitamins and cosmetic type stuff. We mean ending the damages of the aging process so we can live to be 100, 200, 500, - indefinitely with health.

Whether you support this, are interested in learning more, or vehemently oppose this, we want to know your views about it through an interview at our Sunday Evening Update show. Some of the shows past guests include Ray Kurzweils personal doctor and co author of one of his books, Dr. Terry Grossman, the famed Dr. Aubrey de Grey, and the evolutionary biologist Dr. Michael Rose to name a few.

Let us know if you want a free book or two about this and we will send them to you. We don’t want your money, don’t even send it to us. We just want to get more views from people like you on our show, to attract more discussion surrounding this critical cause, and to possibly get support from more VIP’s like you. Please do say yes. Call me at --- and we’ll arrange it for a show that works best for you.

Yours Truly,
So and so

This is an unedited snail mail that we wrote to Bill Maher.

Dear Bill Maher,

Many of us saw your recent movie Religulous, which was a great examination and satire of organized religion. Being a proponent of free thought yourself, we here at imminst, would like to give you some interesting books on the subject of radical life extension, and Cryonics, both of which our non-profit website is so focused on. We also would be honored and privileged if you could attend one of our Sunday evening update chats here at our website.

Enclosed:

1. The Scientific Conquest of Death, (an overview of many issues surrounding the topic of conquering death)
2. 21st Century Kids, (written to explain cryonics to kids, sort of like Daddy Day, Daughter Day was written to help with pain of divorce)
3. Ending Aging, (what is being done to end aging and how it most likely can be accomplished)
4. The Prospect of Immortality, (a classic introduction to cryonics)

We here at imminst have ties to many organizations that are doing vital research into trying to slow down, halt, or even reversing the aging process in humans. We hope you will look at some of the books we provided that go into more detail on how this can be done. Some of the most promising research is being done at the SENS foundation, with Aubrey De Grey.

We wanted to also bring to your attention the importance of Cryonics. Cryonics, although not proven to work yet, could give many people a chance of continuing their lives such that one day in the future scientists can find a cure for what killed the person, and then using nanotechnology be able to unthaw the individual; thus bringing them back to life. Reversing the aging process is likely to be a normal practice by then, so the possibilities are limitless for what one day can, and we think, will be done for people.

There is a lot of information at the Cryonics Institute website and Alcor website. http://www.cryonics.org/refs.html and http://www.alcor.org/

Feel free to contact me with any questions, I am an enthusiast myself and believe that human life extension and Cryonics will play a vital role in many of our lives very soon.

Best of luck with your show Real Time!

Devon Fowler

Here is the exact letter we sent to the Alabama school boards and should be used for all high schools.

To (individually insert each schools name starting with A from this link, http://www.directory...ols/alabama.htm dont include those duplicate names that are in there)

Im with the Advocates & Researchers for Unlimited Lifespans at imminst.org.

Research into unlimited lifespans is underway, and the cause is growing. You may not have heard about this burgeoning field of science and philosophy. It's the idea that doing something to slow down, halt, or even reverse the aging process in people, is an ethical and necessary goal. This is to combat the myriad amount of age related diseases that presently kill over 100,000 people a day. This is also ethical in that we believe life has tremendous worth for everyone on this planet.

This might sound radical at first, but many people, including many polls of people, show that the majority of people in many countries, including the U.S., would like to live longer lives. Whether deeply religious, or not, we believe life is a wonderful thing that shouldn't go to waste. There is a lot of discussion and action, established online non-profits working for the cause, and research going on in labs right now, trying to do something about prolonging life. One of the things that is happening right now with life extension, is what Dr. Aubrey de Grey, (a British bio gerontologist,) is doing with his SENS Foundation. His idea, and foundation, is work being done right now in labs throughout the country whereby they are combating the 7 causes of aging. They do this using an engineering approach that will ultimately include stem cell rejuvenation type of therapies, which in short, could repair damaged cells in our bodies.

Dr. de Grey has been featured on several American and English TV shows, including 20/20, with Barbra Walters in a special called "How to live to 150." He has also been on a popular BBC documentary, the Colbert Report, and a recent documentary on the History Channel. There is much more going on in this field as well including a prize that is up in the multimillions that will be awarded to a scientist that can keep a mouse alive the longest. I will also send you an email with the links to these sites.

The reason I am contacting you, is because we want to inform students and teachers more about what could be the most important human rights cause ever imagined. We here at imminst.org, believe every life is precious and thus worth fighting for! We want to send you a copy of a book called LifeQuest. We have recently been granted 100 free copies of this book to disseminate, from another of the affiliates in this field, the co founders of the Alcor Life Extension Foundation. If you are interested in receiving more copies for use in a class that you may be able to work it in to, then let us know. Please talk to teachers you think you may find to be interested in receiving more of these for their students. If you can, please encourage your colleagues to read the book and give it a review at amazon.com. We will send you these books for free. These particular books are fictional, but they spark ideas and discussio about this crucial cause. We also disseminate copies of bio gerontology engineering science for the laymen, called “Ending Aging” by Aubrey de Grey PHD and Michael Rae.

We want to get professors and students opinions on life extension, whether good or bad. To that end please consider asking teachers to make a request for as many free copies of LifeQuest or Ending Aging as they can make use of, so that perhaps students might write an essay on the subject. We could even work out a prize to a winning essay. We would also like to invite interested students and professors to attend an online broadcast and chat called the Sunday Evening Update at imminst.org/tv. There have been many prominent scientists and enthusiasts who have hosted our show, including biologist Michael Rose, Ray Kurzweil's doctor, biologist Cynthia Kenyon, and many more.

This is also part of the philosophy of Transhumanism which is a subset of humanism. It is the idea that each of us has tremendous worth as people, living on this planet, and that life right now is just too short; thus limiting our goals, dreams, and even the wonders of sharing the world with loved ones and friends. Many people, like me, would love to stay young longer, and believe it or not many great thinkers and scientists believe it is possible; the question is when.

My name is Devon Fowler and I would be happy to speak with you over the phone, or in email, anytime that you may want to. Below is my contact information.

Remember, like Shannon points out, short and sweet. We have to keep working to pull these letters back in to this short format. I know all this information that we have created in these longer letters is useful information and all, but we have to keep looking at this from the other persons point of view as much as we can. People are used to getting a ton of spam. They quickly scan it for that rare gem, or useful peice of mail. The letter just has to be a hook. Remember, then we also include emails, pamphlets, forum, chat room, Sunday Evening Update Interview, and phone interaction opportunities in this. All of those things can be longer. We have to give these letters though, the best chance possible of being read, and part of that includes making them short enough so that people wont fear reading it will be a waste of time. This isnt a waste of time of course, but they dont know that, yet.

Heres Shannons letter which serves as a template:

Dear Larry King,

I saw your interview with Conan O'Brian and heard of your interest in Cryonics. I've enclosed some books on the subject and the contact information for the various organizations.

Enclosed:

There is a lot of information at the Cryonics Institute website and Alcor website. http://www.cryonics.org/refs.html and http://www.alcor.org/

Feel free to contact me with any questions, I'm the mother of three children who are signed up for cryonics. You can see me interviewed by Barbara Walters by typing "Freezing Yourself Into the Future" at the ABC news site.

Best of luck with all, and your own trip into the future :-)

Heres my new shorter letter template suggestion based on this, suggestions from all the templates, and a variety of other factors:

Hello,

You’re dying.

Life is an ever more increasingly fabulous gift, but it goes by in the blink of an eye. We invite you to join in on a groundbreaking organization that is working to stop it from going by so fast. This organization is the Immortality Institute, Advocacy & Research for Unlimited Lifespans (Pamphlet enclosed) We assure you that we are doing everything we can to make this organizations pivotal mission succeed.

Which is why we are eager to offer VIPs like you an invitation to get in on this ground breaking cause.

In addition to this invitation you get all this and more:

-6 months free membership (membership includes further perks)

-An interview on our Sunday Evening Update internet broadcast. (free exposure)

-Free books on the cause.

-An excuse to learn about, and then become a part of this grand cause.

-free exclusive 6 month memberships to 2 people of your choice.

There are no obligations. We need you, and you need this cause. (insert possible personalized message here, ie. “Politically Incorrect, Religulous, and Real Time can be just the tip of the ice berg.”)

We guarantee you this offer and will send you more books upon request. Please get a hold of us right away. The fulfillment of this monumental, historic and crucial cause awaits you.

Very Truly Yours,
(name of any approved VIP Outreach Member willing to leave their phone number)
Volunteer
Advocates & Researchers for Unlimited Lifespans
(phone number)

PS. Hurry, we need the help of every new supporter like there is no tomorrow.

We would then include a pamplet with this, and send out pretty much any of the other templates in email for now. We can coordinate a better, on point, poignant email as we go. For now though, the team is doing excellent in making initial gains. Now as we hone in these letters and take on more volunteers and resources we can only turn up the amps on this.

Then also with this letter, when we send out a book, we'll include a list of all the books with the book. Like this:

This is an excellent book. If you dont have time to read it, or if its not your style of reading, then please pass this free gift on to anybody you choose. You can request free copies of any of the following, and you can also make special requests.

Ending Aging: The Rejuvenation Breakthroughs That Could Reverse Human Aging in Our Lifetime: by Aubrey de Grey and Michael Rae

The Scientific Conquest of Death: by Immortality Institute

21st Century Kids: by Shannon Vyff

LifeQuest: Dozens of Stories about Cryonics, Uploading, and other Transhuman Adventures by Fred Chamberlain, Linda Chamberlain, Thomas Donaldson, and Lee Corbin

I like your letter except the "you're dying" part. That could come across as too harsh and insensitive, even though I kind of like it for some people maybe, and I see what you're getting at. Thanks for finding the King letter I was looking for that one.

Here's a letter I sent to Harvard Humanist group

This is an enquiry e-mail via http://goodwithoutgod.info/ from:
Devon Fowler <fowlerdevon@gmail.com>

This is a follow up message as I sent one to an email address that was with Harvard's Humanist site, but I'm not sure if it was this one, because I accessed it from another home page.

In the last letter I talked about imminst.org or The Immortality Institute. Here we believe that prolonging life in humans, or even living for and indefinite amount of time is essential for so many reasons. Maybe the most important is death is a terrible end to all our hopes and dreams and aspirations and therefore should be at least delayed as long as possible.

Our intention is to find people in unaffiliated network communities who might be interested in learning more about us and even appearing on our Sunday Evening Update which is an interview style online chat show done in a chat box style format.

I will follow up with a phone call tomorrow or Monday to see if anyone would be interested. We would particularly be interested to see if Greg Epstein your Chaplain would be interested in attending. It runs at 6:00 pm every Sunday.

We would particularly be interested in hearing Greg, or any other member who would be interested views on human life extension, and if, in fact he/she knows much, or anything about what's going on in this exciting field of science and philosophy.

My name is Devon and I can be reached at this email address, fowlerdevon@gmail.com or my cell, 617-504-7629.

thanks,
Devon Fowler

Should I give them th
e book either way, or in this case, wait to see if they will do the show?

Replace "Hello" in that template with "Dear (so and so)".

As for the opener "Your dying," use that or any attention grabbing opener that works for your target. Tailor it to them. You could try, "Do you want to die?" or "100,000 people die every single day from the diseases of aging," or "We want to live forever, and we're getting there.
Bill Clinton" etc...

Prepare for at least 3 books to be sent yes. Ill be paying for them this month. Lets send books whenever possible. It strengthens this outreach, gets more books out there, and gives more substance to this teams accomplishments, which will in turn inspire more volunteers and participation and donations etc..

I wonder if we could consolidate the structure of the main talking points down to an easy reference -- this seems to be the gist of what is being communicated;

Introduction

1. What longevity research is
2. What the science has achieved so far

Action Item

3. ImmInst is looking for spokespeople / media representatives
4. How "you" can get involved / how it effects "you"

Summary

5. Why life-extension is a valuable thing / why "you" should want to be involved
6. Contact info

The actual talking points, based on the archived letters in the threads, seem to be;

1. Life extension is a goal achievable in our lifetimes, and worth pursuing.

2. The life extension movement has no official spokesperson.

3. The public would benefit greatly by the VIP's involvement in the movement.

Does this sound accurate to everyone? If not, what are the main talking points and actionable items we need to get across?

Right, I'd say so.

Apart from, we're not really looking for media reps per se in this project, so much as good publicity from celebrities since the public will generally take the (admittedly fallacious) argument from authority.

But other than that, I'd say you've nailed it.

The actual talking points, based on the archived letters in the threads, seem to be;

I'd personally scrap number 2, and streamline it to just the other two points, thus:

1. Life extension is a goal achievable in our lifetimes, and worth pursuing.

2. The public would benefit greatly by the VIP's involvement in the movement.

Does that make sense to you?

If it doesn't, then I am probably missing something and am very open to further thoughts on this.

Kian, I think that is a very nice outline you made, especially the talking points. I agree with David's revision as admitting that we have no official spokesperson is not a good idea, as we don't want to self efface ourselves.

Personally I think the world of life extension having no single official spokeperson is not a bad thing, it's just an irrelevant thing here, and could (as you suggest) look bad if the reader doesn't think it through.

ImmInst of course does have official spokespeople, but that is also irrelevant here.

So, while I don't think the lack of a single spokesman is a problem, I do agree that it's best to focus on the useful, and ignore the useless.

I wonder if we could consolidate the structure of the main talking points down to an easy reference -- this seems to be the gist of what is being communicated;

Introduction

1. What longevity research is
2. What the science has achieved so far

Action Item

3. ImmInst is looking for spokespeople / media representatives
4. How "you" can get involved / how it effects "you"

Summary

5. Why life-extension is a valuable thing / why "you" should want to be involved
6. Contact info

I create the letters I write like this:

1. who we are, which also says what we are about
2. I try to let the book offer, and the interview offer lend an air to authority, and let that let them assume that we are accomplished in at least some way.
3. I now also include an imminst pamphlet with the letter to try to more officially state some of the main things we have done and give a little more info.

The action items are:

4. receive and read our book if you want to
5. try to appeal to their strengths and things they do that are related
6. come on our show and do an interview. Interview is a way of drawing them in, in a fun, interesting way that we hope appeals to more rather than maybe like, "please register at our forum" or something like that. We are now working on trying to hook them from there with an offer to join a vip lounge that we have in proposal (response #32).

Closer:

7. general summary or closer

Some of them here do sound like that, but they continue to evolve through feedback like yours, thanks.

My pleasure. Obviously different letters have different theme and objectives, those were just the broadest themes I found across the last few months of VIP
drafts.

I personally find it helpful to have outlines for reference.
