Great news!! :)

Could this mean governement isn't evil after all? Nah, probably not. [tung]

Does anyone know what Governor Arnold's stance is towards cryonics or life extension? Aren't there two cryonics firms in California? [mellow]

Kudos to Rep. Linda Lopez as well! [thumb]

She's got my vote for President! Seriously. I think it's not too late to nominate her as candidate for the Extropian Party. I mean it.

I think now would be an ideal time for Alcor to propose appropriate legislation to promote oversight of cryonics in a responsible fashion. Otherwise we may face this battle again, possibly under even less favorable circumstances. Or, if there is no oversight, we may see an unscrupulous cryonics organization turn out to be fleecing patients and dumping their bodies in a ravine to feed the coyotes.

I imagine Rep. Lopez would be a good candidate for sponsorship.

Yes, I agree and see Alcor as working towards this goal.

Just to add some extra unreliable stories to the mix; politics is very annoying in that even Alcor has no motivation to tell the truth about what's going on behind the doors (since telling the truth will likely annoy legislators).

So it's anyone's guess as to what happens next, or who is actually "behind" the legislation at this point in time, or what Stump's motivations are.
