Company Summary

Livly is a non-profit startup working on a cure for cancer. The innate immune system has a simple approach toward ridding the body of cancer cells: search and destroy. But not everyone's immune system is up to snuff. Livly is developing novel strategies to amplify the body's own ability to fight cancer.

If you would like to join Livly in its aim to save lives, please email livly.org@gmail.com with a brief description of your qualifications and your interest.

Projects

Hi brokenportal - we are moving forward on two fronts: (1) our cancer killing assay and (2) our incubation program.

After recently improving our assay for quantifying cell death, we have begun screening a wider audience for cancer killing ability. What we can do from there is look for patterns in the results. We know already that cancer killing ability is affected by the season and by the age of the individual. I have a theory that autoimmunity can play a role in cancer-killing ability - particularly that those with autoimmune disorders (like myself) have a greater ability to fend off cancer. We hope to study this theory, among others, as we gather more data.

Also, we have just structured our incubation program - a space and equipment sharing model - to allow local, early-stage startups in need of cell culturing equipment to work out of our lab at a low cost. You can see more information on our program here: http://www.livly.org...tive_Space.html

It is Livly's philosophy to make our research findings available for free to the public. In this vein, we not only want to open our space to other startups, but also want to push for 'open source science' in general. Another way we are attempting the latter is by hosting small DIYBio meetups, where science enthusiasts get a chance to get their hands dirty with biochemistry. It's a lot of fun. :) You can find out more about DIYBio here: http://diybio.org/ or by googling the term.
