An issue I see with the "cooperative supplement" is that however good it will be, most people will have a different point of view on at least a few ingredients - amount, form, etc.

A solution for this would be the use of CustomCapsule for manufacturing of this supplement. There will be one "baseline mixture", and everyone can change the amounts and forms, as well as add in other ingredients (blueberry, pommegrenate, green tea extract...) if he desires.

There are obviously some issues with that approach, as well as solutions for them.

1) CoAs. Afaik CustomCapsule doesn't provide them at all.
Solution: CC will have to provide the CoAs for all ingredients before we do anything.

2) Forms. Not every supplement is available in the exact form we want, especially minerals; no orotates.
Solution: CC will have to provide the exact forms we specify in the "baseline" supplement. If they provide additional forms too, even better.

3) Advantage for CC. What do they get out of it?
Solution: If they provide CoAs and the forms we need, the community guarantees to buy at least a specified minimum amount of the supplement.

Some auditing of the manufacturign process might perhaps also be neccessary.

What do you think of this idea? It will be impossible to build a supplement that is "perfect" for anyone - why not have it open for modification?

Disclaimer: I am only a small customer with CC, and am not in any other way affilliated with them.

This is the reason why the very best (basic) multi in the world (which may very well be ours now that orthocore is pretty out of date in some aspects IMHO) is only sub-par and second to personalised supplementation. So if you really wanted to step it up a notch, you'd not "improve" on any multi, you'd drop all multis and focus completely on single nutrients that you need as per CRON-o-meter and food databases.

That being said, it's not a bad idea if we ignore points 1-3. Additionally, I fear that price would sky-rocket when using customcapsule. I can't imagine they wouldn't command a higher price tag than our other options.

This in one way to personalize it. Take the multi, and change the dosages.

I wouldn't ignore the points 1-3, I would suggest to fix them. ;-)
The price of CC is reasonably low in my experience.

I think there are 2 issues with CC.

1- I won't even get into my main concern, however it revolves around the master batch record being required by the FDA for each individual formulation. Something, cGMP facilities dread, but have to live with as it increases manufacturing costs.

2- Suggesting that the community guarantee to buy a specified minimum. I don't think this will fly as well.

I believe this is "open" at this time, as only licensing would be necessary.

Cheers

Waldemar, I agree with your first statement:

“An issue I see with the "cooperative supplement" is that however good it will be, most people will have a different point of view on at least a few ingredients - amount, form, etc.”

The type of “basic pizza” concept with different toppings may not work too well for nutritional supplements. Private labeling is much more than that. It’s looking at market survey reports, statistics and demographics and determining the right formula for the targeted group. It’s keeping on top of the latest research done on nutrients as well as consumer trends and customer expectations. Private label manufacturers who really want to make a mark for themselves would consider these things. It is not an expensive venture. You just need to find the right nutritional supplement manufacturer. Vitacap Labs has always strived to offer economical rates that are viable – I’ve always found their rates affordable and there is so much more they have to offer.
