27 years of age. Was diagnosed with Acid Reflux. On 40mg of Omeprazole and some antacids as well

Supplements with Meal 1

NOW EGCg - x1 (shall I drop this and just drink green tea instead?)
Jarrow MK-7 90mcg - x1 (will replace with LEF product once this finishes)
LEF Pomegranate Extract - x1 (shall I just drink some POM juice instead ?)
Carlson Labs, Norwegian Salmon Oil- 2 softgels
NOW Vitamin D 1000IU (tested value was 15ng/ml) x 1

Supplements with Meal 2

Carlson Labs, Norwegian Salmon Oil- 2 softgels

--------------------------------------------

Other supplements I thought of adding:

Albion Magnesium
ALCAR/ALA
Cacao extract (not sure if this can worsen acid reflux)
L-Glutamine
lycopene
Vitamin E

any advice would be appreciated

Green tea may make acid reflux worse, but if you like drinking it, the data probably supports it over an extract. But it may make your belly upset...

I'd probably go with a regular fish oil, over salmon oil. The odd oils, like salmon, cod liver, etc, scare me a little.

I think you need more vitamin D than that, to raise your levels. If currently at 15, you may want to consider something like 3000-5000IU for several weeks, then retest.

What sort of cacao extract were you considering? Real cacao may make reflux worse -- not sure about an extract.

I usually just suggest people use cronometer, add vits/minerals they are deficient in, or change diet. Add K2 + D as needed (dose D by serum). If low in mag, it's a good idea to add it. Fish oil + green tea is fine, pom is fine, although can't say if an extract or real juice is better. If using real juice, I'd only use a small amount, due to sugar and possibility of making reflux worse (pom juice tends to be very tart).

Some supplements for reflux you can research: limonene, DGL, and ginger (although depending on cause, ginger may make it worse).

thanks for the info nameless

I was considering LEF's cacao/blueberry/pom extract to be more specific and the green tea extract to avoid the reflux issues with drinking the stuff. The POM juice has 17g of sugar per 100ml so I may stick with the extract instead.

I agree with nameless. I'd drop the egcg for the time being, until the GERD is well under control. I like GTE too much to kick it out of my regimen permanently. Definitely up your D3, and make sure that it's an oil-based (softgel) formulation. The dry tablets are poorly absorbed. I'd go 3-4000 IU, and get retested after a few months. Shoot for a 25-OH-D3 range of 40-50 ng/ml. Drop the pomegranate for the time being as well. All those polyphenols can be a little tough on the stomach. Personally, I wouldn't go with the juice because I don't want all that fructose. I would try to find a good extract like Pom40p; something standardized to punicosides.

thanks for all your feedback. I will drop the GTE and avoid the pom juice for now. I think i will just stick with warm water with some squeezed lemon as juice. I also need to improve my lipids as well since they are in a poor state so i'm considering CR

Nameless could you explain the part about ginger in more detail.

I'm not a ginger expert, but I think if your reflux is caused by a sphincter problem, it may help. But in some people ginger increases acid production, so that obviously may not be so good either.

I guess best way to figure it out is just test? They sell little ginger candies you can try. If they help, you can try a supplement or raw ginger.

There are a couple of GERD threads in the forums here, so you can look those up for other ideas.

And lemon juice + acid reflux sounds like a bad idea to me...

alright, i will try some fresh ginger root with my meals. I know that Green tea has theanine which can help with the sphincter issue as well but i don't think the extract contains that, hence the idea of drinking it instead.

do you think LEF's pom/blueberry/cacoa extract is worth it?

I like the Pomella extract found in Life Extension pomegranate products (it's standardized to punicalagins), but feel their cocoa and blueberry extracts are too low in dosage to really matter. If you eat a square of dark chocolate plus a handful of blueberries daily, you'd probably get more polyphenols. Still... if you want a pomegranate extract, I think it's not a bad choice. I can't say if it's the most cost effective though.

I also like PomX, from the Pom Wonderful people, but it's really expensive.

ok then i think i will just thaw those frozen blueberries and eat them (have to say they don't taste all that great)

not sure about the dark chocolate but I don't think a small piece would cause much irritation to the stomach

Not sure I'd advise dark chocolate, even a small piece, until your acid reflux is under control. I'm also not sure if an extract would necessarily be that much better, as to get equivalent amounts of polyphenols, you'd probably have to take several capsules daily.

If you have a blender, you can try blending the frozen blueberries. That's what I do (it also avoids the dreaded 'blue mouth' disease, where my lips/teeth would be blue after eating a bowl of blueberries.) Just blend frozen blueberries with water, until it makes a slushy type of drink-- tastes better to me than eating the berries plain -- sort of like blueberry ice.

decided to add L-glutamine in the morning before the PPI. 1 teaspoon (5g) in a glass of water. Also considering taking 40mg of the PPI in the morning and a further 20mg in the evening.

was wondering if there is any type of tea that won't result in acid reflux? perhaps black tea

I was prescribed a PPI about 10 years ago for gastritis (Prevacid I think). I was basically told I would have to take it for life by my doctor.
It worked great at first, but then I started getting burning sensations in my stomach even while I was taking it. I started to fear that if
the med wasnt working what would I do then.

Long story short. I stopped the medicine altogether and very quickly everything was back to normal.
If you don't have a serious ulcer condition.... maybe test backing off of the PPI for a bit... and see how you feel.
Your regimen seems to be good.

The stomach is supposed to have acid in it. That's what stomach's do. Fish oil was the one supplement that totally
ended my gastritis conditions. I haven't taken any medication for 10 years now for my stomach. I am just letting it do what
stomachs do.

EDIT: From what I have read the d-limonene may be a God send to help with all of this.

Culturelle is a decent OTC probiotic. Theralac is also considered good. If on a budget, maybe one of the Jarrows would be okay too.

Best I think is VSL #3 DS. It's a prescription, but since you do have a stomach problem, maybe you can find a doctor to prescribe it. Some insurances cover it... some don't.

They sell enteric coated fish oils, if regular ones bother your stomach.

Unfortunately I don't have any good recommendations that don't cost an arm and a leg. Let me know if you come across anything.

You asked about Now EGCG vs green tea. I would replace it with green tea only if you use the powder matcha where you consume the whole leaf. Otherwise you get very little EGCG.
