Supplements for flexibility & stretching

Hi all,

I was wondering if there are supplements worth taking to improve joint flexibility or to relax the muscles. I've always had very tight hamstrings which take a lot of work to become even slightly loose.

I'd like to start yoga/stretching classes soon, but it would be good if there were something which helped me along the way.

I have had some noticeable effects on my muscles since I started supplementing Potassium... I was often cramping up in Yoga sessions, particularity towards the end, and has reduced dramatically since upping K.

What are the implications for too much Potassium? I always thought Potassium was good for cramps, but I've since been told Magnesium is better.

I've been told Tramadol increases flexibility dramatically by relaxing muscles.

Would supplements like Glucosamine or MSM help, even if indirectly?

I also have hamstring problems. Hurt my left one in a 4x100m and now cannot sprint at 100% years later

Believe it or not, some strength training combined with proper stretching may help improve flexibility. Exercise followed by proper stretching is the best thing you can do. Bikram yoga is better than regular yoga for your problems IMO.

Turmeric and Yoga

I went to a trainer for months and was never fully healed. One of his best pieces of advice that I never fully followed was to get a rope long enough to wrap around the foot so that I could stretch my straightened leg better.

Interesting advice, thanks for the tips. I keep meaning to try Tumeric.

I wonder why some people are more naturally flexible than others... without even needing to stretch?

One should not stretch the ligaments as that's irreversible and can lead to laxity! Asanas done with incorrect form can cause this which is why yoga should be learned from a competent teacher and not from books.

Anything that reduces inflammation will help. My stack improved my flexibility almost right away last year and it has remained good, easily as good as it was when I was in my 20s. I'm taking over 60 supplements though so I'm not sure which ones are actually doing it (I didn't anticipate improving flexibility when I started; it was just a nice surprise) I just know that when my background inflammation levels dropped, my flexibility concurrently went up.

Vitamin C also. we stretch our body everytime we move some stretchers take it too far
