Hi,

I was wondering if anyone could suggest a suppliment or med that could greatly improve a woman libido. I would say 95% of the time I have no sexual desire at all and I would really like to have a better sex drive. I wasnt sure where to look but if you have any information I would appriciate it.

Horny Goat Weed should work for women also.

i think a combination of yohimbine and phenibut would work well... ive read of many others but they are always in the context of males. I know these two supplements are universal. There's a lot of info out there and it's hard to know for sure, but yohimbine especially is tried and true.

luminare,

1. Sex drive is a lot more complicated in women then men (ya I know--duh). This is why there is no female viagra. Taking e.g. something to increase testosterone (or dopamine, etc) may not yield the results you are looking for.

2. You are a young women and from reading previous posts are stressed out. How about taking time to relax and enjoy life and let things, including sexual interest bloom at your own speed.

Are you depressed? Do you enjoy, and seek out other pleasures in life? Depending on your tastes this might include food, beauty, nature...LOL shopping for many women

May I recommend this relaxation exercise:

Also, if you are open to meditation (this will take longer to work then the exercises above, but the benefits are much more profound) check out meditation and the companion exercise tuning in, here (the articles are worth reading also):

Thanks for the replies, actually all the other post on this account is my boyfriends.

The Female libido is complicated. I used to enjoy sex a lot, but currently its like stimulation just doesnt work its more ticklish/uncomfrotable than it used to be, and not being in the mood, its just dissapointing.

I am currently taking Birth Control, prozac and rarely for extreme anxiety a klonopin. I believe it might be since the meds my sex drive has greatly decreased but I dont know what to do about it other than ask around. Im sure stress and school play a big part and I will try the meditation techniques you linked to as well.

Thanks for the information.

Emily.

Emily,

"I am currently taking Birth Control"

I gather these (oral contraceptives) can have a significant effect on a woman's sex drive. You might ask your girlfriends what flavor of pill they take and by comparing notes with them and discussing it with your gyn find one more libido friendly. I do have a vague memory that there is one oral contraceptive which is known through the female grapevine for increasing sex drive, but have no memory of the name.

I have no knowledge of the effects of prozac on female sex drive. You might try searching google or asking your doc. If no luck there, you might get an answer by asking over at the avant forum (http://forum.avantlabs.com/).

luminare: Stories regarding Prozac specifically (and SSRI's in general) causing sexual dysfunction have been floating all over the Internet (probably for ages, but I've only started researching antidepressants over the past few week personally). Aside from any possible trust issues, anxiety and the possibility of birth control pills causing your 'numbness' (which I would know nothing about) I would definitely recommend you talk to your MD about the possibility of using an antidepressant without (or at least with fewer) negative sexual side effects.

From everything that I've been reading I've found it pretty surprising A) how few doctors seem to be up front about negative side effects associated with medications in general B) how many medications being prescribed today have *discontinuation withdrawal* C) and how few doctors seem to even know some of the more disturbing side effects that are being openly talked on so many drug related forums (eg Ambien blackouts or the [name favorite drug here] discontinuation "Shocks").

About.com has some info on sexual side effects regarding SSRI's (and Prozac): http://panicdisorder...sideeffects.htm

Then something of an activist website called prozactruth.com: http://www.prozactru...sideeffects.htm

Here's a sort of funny (although interesting) article from New Scientist regarding a drug being (co) developed by the very company that brought your Prozac in the first place thats supposed to "help overcome the sexual side effects of Prozac". Is that ironic? I always get the useage mixed up.: http://www.newscient...p?id=ns99991349
