Yes, I know, the cheapest way to get a massage is to simply get it from someone you know who's willing to give them to you. For me, that's not an option for the foreseeable future.

So what other options are there? I sometimes use Shiatsu neck massagers for my neck pain, but it's only good for neck pain (it doesn't feel so wonderful like a real massage does). I don't have the money to pay for $50 per massage session.

Are there creative ways of performing massages on yourself that actually feel amazing? Or is that not possible, for the same reason that it's not really possible to tickle yourself?

a theracane and a tennis ball... i also have a sharper image shiatsu massage pad thing, and its ok... its good for a pleasure massage but for deep tissue nothing beats a tennis ball.

I've heard you can get an amazing massage in Bali for $5. Plus airfare of course.

I've graduated to needing a lacrosse ball, a golf ball, and PVC pipe to hold myself together between ART-type sessions.

Foam rolling is wonderful and necessary to get deep into your back muscles and leg muscles.

I do massage different parts of my body with my own hands, ie: neck, head, knees, feet, hands, shoulders, arms... But I happen to believe that healing comes from within...

Goto a univ/college that teaches massage therapy and get a massage for as low as $20, they always need people to practice on.

Okay that's a good idea.

I just tried the theracane. Better than my electric neck massager, but still not comfortable. It relieves pain, but does not feel amazing.

It happens that there is no person nearby who can do a relaxing massage, and then I use a vibrating back massager, this is a really good tool to help you relax and unwind, you can see this site for more details. It even has a car adapter, so you can actually have it in your car if you live in the suburbs like me. I hope this helps you.

the most effective thing I've found to quickly (minutes) help with concentration and brain fog, if muscles around the neck/upper-back/etc are tight is just do some stretching.
