The role
You'll join the first line of defense in keeping us seamlessly connected and equipped to push the boundaries of scientific capability. Your collegial attitude and love for figuring out how to make things work will make you a solid fit for our team.
Tasks :
• Implement, administer and troubleshoot installed desktop systems and software, peripheral equipment and user local area network.
• Interact with vendor technical support contacts to address product issues, manage RMA and licensing agreements and purchase processes.
• Assess functional needs, provide detailed specifications, purchase and manage desktop hardware and software assets in accordance with established desktop standards.
• Provide 1st and 2nd level incident support for all desktop platforms; independently manage and resolve work requests to meet established desktop support SLA’s
• Proactively monitor and maintain desktop hardware to meet availability and performance expectations and recommend technical and process improvements.
• Innovate, evaluate and implement new desktop hardware and software technologies that complement and enhance end user efficiency.
• Install desktop upgrades, software upgrades, patches, service packs and virus /spyware updates.
• Prepare and maintain desktop system configuration documentation and provide end user training
• Participate in on-call support rotation; provide independent judgment and discretion in analyzing and resolving complex infrastructure incidents.
Experience :
• Require 2+ years experience in cross platform hardware configuration with in depth knowledge of Windows (XP and 7) and Mac OS (10.6) desktop operating systems.
• Requires 2+ years managing and administering Windows Server 2008 and Active Directory account credentials, MS Office business products), automating desktop policies, incident ticket reporting, and remote desktop management
• Applied knowledge of software licensing and hardware maintenance agreements
• Experience in administering and troubleshooting medium office wired and wireless LAN, remote access client VPN and IP telephony and conferencing systems.
• Experience configuring and managing network printers, handheld devices (Blackberry, iPhone, etc), video conferencing and multimedia equipment
• Experience supporting creative design and software engineering product suites including Jira, L-Edit, Solidworks, Subversion a plus
• MCP or Linux experience a plus
Education :
Two years of college or equivalent post-high school education or experience
