Hi, I'm 20 years old Aussie studying at tertiary school and I'm about to start on my first nootropics regime and I have a few questions. I could research about all these but it takes a long time and I want fellow australians opinion on nootropics. Currently I'm dependent/like the effect of tea on my concentration and motivation. Caffeine is a wonderful nootropic since it's cheap and considered safe. But the only down side is that I can quickly become tolerant to it.

After researching about nootropics I've discovered about other nootropics that are as safe and effective as caffeine called piracetam. I would love to add another nootropics as my regime as long as it's safe as caffeine. I'm mainly looking to improve motivation, concentration, energy, mood and overall cognition. Improved memory would be nice but I don't want to take too many chemicals but I'll add that as well if it's safe.

This is my current regimen:
M - Study from 9am to 12pm, 1pm to 4pm. Drink of green/black tea at 9am and 1pm.
T - "
W - "
Th - "
F - "
S - "
Su - "

My health is not too bad. I take fish oil twice a day but don't take multivitamin tablet since I heard that it's a waste of money, can cause cancer, OD and so on. I occasionally drink homemade vegetable juice so I think that's enough? I also chew gum often and drink plenty of water. I also exercise regularily, eat healthy and try to get enough sleep each night. I don't drink or smoke.

I'm looking for a nootropic that are in these priority:
1. safe with no serious side effects
2. effective
3. affordable and not illegal in Australia

I've been doing some research and I'm looking at these nootropics. What do you think about them? Are they safe?:
- Piracetam + CDPcholine(for mood and concentration), ALCAR + ALA(for energy), sulbutiamine(B1)(for energy and concentration)and L-Tyrosine(for energy).

I am avoiding the following due to its potentially dangerous side effects:
- pyritinol(B6)- Liver damage, Dimethylethanolamine(DMAE) and Vinpocetine.

I'm not sure about these ones, I may take them after there's been a lot more research done or I've done more research and feel confident later on:
- Aniracetam, Huperzine A

What do you guys think about nootropics in general compared to caffeine? Do you think they are safe and as/more effective or not as effective? Also, are any of these nootropics illegal to import to Australia? Lastly if you could recommend me any other safe and effective nootropics I'll appreciate it. Thanks

At your age the best nootropics are good food, sleep, and exercise. Eat a lot of fresh vegetables and fruit, and cutg down on processed food, particularly fast foods. Get at least 8 hours sleep. You include regular exercise routine which is an excellent way to boost mental sharpness. Be sure to include cardio-vascular training, aim to build stamina. And do yourself a favor and chuck the gum. These days gum is full of Aspartame. You don't want that substance in your body nor chance it fogging your thinking.

Fish oil and green tea are both beneficial. If you already have all of the above covered then go for piracetam and a choline source combination. Those two are just fundamental nootropics to my mind. ALCAR + ALA both good. L-Tyrosine is good. Where do you hear vitamins cause cancer? Multi vitamin and mineral supplements are a massive boost, particularly if you are exercising and studying hard. I have been taking 'multi vits' for years and count them as my number one all round supplement.

Further to all of that, consider oxiracetam for occasional use when the pressure is on to digest textbook chapters and difficult study material. It works well for focus. Since you are in Australia unfortunately you need a letter from a doctor with your order to be certain of getting any racetam past customs, such as piracetam or oxiracetam.

You are able to import oxiracetam legally into Australia.
