Hi All

I'm a newbie here.

I'm trying to improve my memory. I started taking DMAE
10 days ago, increasing as the days past. I'm using
DMAE Bitartrate by lef.org Each capsule is 150 mg and
contains 37% DMAE. I guess each capsule actually contains
55 mg of DMAE, if I understand all this correctly.

I took 12 capsules yesterday. I increased to 20 today. I
*might* have neck stiffness now. (Perhaps I'm just
imagining it.) I take this with a half cup of strong coffee
on a empty stomach upon arising.

I don't see any results. Am I missing something?

1. The LEF says 1-4 caps/day so perhaps you are taking too much (see below).
2. read:

http://www.1fast400....gredients_id=46

Even at the correct dose you have picked one of the more controversial substances to start with.

3. Read lots of old threads here and at avant:

http://forum.avantlabs.com/

before starting to take anything.

------------------------------------------------------------------
From LEF:

**
One capsule, one to four times daily, or as suggested by a healthcare professional.**

DMAE Capsules
150 mg • 200 capsules
Item Catalog Number: 257

DMAE is a substance that is known to stabilize cell membranes. Cell membrane degradation has been proposed as one of the prime mechanisms of normal aging. DMAE is a precursor to choline and acetylcholine. However, DMAE has been shown to cross the blood-brain barrier faster than choline. It is the choline inside cells that is converted to phosphatidylcholine, used in the building and repair of cell membranes, especially in the brain.*
Supplement Facts

Serving Size 1 Capsule

Servings Per Container 200
Amount Per Serving

DMAE bitratrate (37% DMAE) dimethylaminoethanol

150 mg

Other ingredients: rice flour, magnesium stearate, gelatin, and water.
Dosage and Use

One capsule, one to four times daily, or as suggested by a healthcare professional.

This product may be more effective if not taken with meals.

A few individuals find DMAE to be stimulating. If excitation, restlessness, muscle tension or headache occurs, reduce dose and take early in the day.*

Thanks for your reply. I started off taking much less than 20 capsules.
I've read some about DMAE already. (how much is valid is another story)
After I read about a supplement for a while I decide to try it or not try it
to see for myself. The "range" for this one seems to vary greatly with
the individual.

I guess the board has varying opinions on this supplement from what
you have written. I'm open to reading them. I have today off (Christmas)
but don't always have the time to respond. {My computer is OLD too.
A 486 with 32 megabytes of RAM. SUPER SLOW. Hope to get a new one
in 2005.)

Take care,

I read the 1fast400 link. DMAE has little if any use according
to them. Most of what I read recently is more positive.

Has anyone here taken anything that actually helped improve
their memory? Has anyone here stopped caffeine, and noticed
a improvment in their memory? I hoping to get my memory
up to the center of the average range. I don't need to have a
good memory (but that would be nice).

Stephenszpak,

Don't look for a magic pill. You need to get the basics right first. Namely a good diet, exercise, sleep, stress management, and losing the caffeine woundn't be a bad idea either since it wipes out all your water soluble nutrients.

Once you have the basics right there are nootropics that will make noticeable improvements.

Thanks for your reply. I have stopped the DMAE, at least for now.
It didn't seem to be helping, although I can't say I'm positive about
it one way or the other.

What are these nootropics you speak of?

Instead of DMAE get Alpha GPC and some Aniracetam.

Stellar

Not much time. I see Alpha GPC in the lef.org catalog.
What is Aniracetam? Do I need a presription? If I
don't but have to order it from another country, is that
legal?

Thanks,

You can get Alpha GPC and Aniracetam at 1FAST400.com or Smi2le.biz
I would take B-complex along with it.

Thanks for your advice. I briefly checked out Alpha GPC and Aniracetam.
Perhaps a cheaper way to increase acetylcholine levels would be to
take lecithin granules? Any comments here? (I would try the Alpha GPC
right now, but at about $78 a bottle with shipping I can't justify it.)

Just curious, I had to take some Sudafed this week to stop a cold
from starting. It didn't improve my memory but the pseudoephedrine
gave me plenty of energy ( it's a stimulant of course). Can a couple
Sudafed be taken every day indefinetly? What would happen if someone
did that?

Thanks for any comments anyone,

Stephen Szpak

Stephen,
I have tried both DMAE and Lecithin. They do not compare to Alpha GPC.

$78 with shipping, where do you get that figure?? I can't remember what it costs at Smi2le.biz (they don't have it in stock), but 1FAST400 has it for $15 for 50g and $40 for 150g. The doseages for this are around 300-500mg.

There's always Centrophenoxine aka Lucidril as well.....you can get 15g of it for $9 at Smi2le. I think the doseages are like 250-500mg.

Alpha GPC from lef.org. 600mg for 60 softgels.
Take 1 or 2 a day. $74 each for non-members,
plus the shipping on top.

Stephen,
I'm not sure what planet you're on, but I pointed out that you can get Alpha GPC from 1FAST400.com and Smi2le.biz for cheap.
I never said anything about LEF.org.

You wrote:

That figure was from lef.org

I called the 1FAST400 number. I guess there are 2 or 3 companies
there. Anyway, I asked to be called back by somone to talk about
Alpha GPC. No one called in about 90 minutes. I called again and
asked this individual what product had ONLY Alpha GPC in it and
nothing else. She didn't know. I'll probably try a health food store.
No offense to you I hope.

Take care,

Got to do something I guess,

Stephen,
It's too bad you got discouraged. I was merely trying to help you save money.

The prices offered by these various distributors, www.smi2le.biz www.1FAST400.com or www.beyond-a-century.com are much much less than what you would pay via LEF or a health food store. It's your dollar, good luck.

If you're still here...what would I expect from taking Alpha GPC?

Better concentration?
Extended concentration?

Side effects? Stomach upset? Drowiness?Headache?

How did YOU detect positive results?

stellar (or anyone can respond)

By reading this thread I can see that different people
are trying different things:

http://www.imminst.o...=169&t=4633&hl=

I suppose I need to do some human experiements (on myself).
Everything here is legal, right? {except the amphetamines}

I am working on a stimulant cocktail. It's one of those things that
can only be done once a week. Maybe twice if there is a 3 or 4 day
separation. If there is any interest I can post some basic info. I doubt
if anyone here will be impressed though.

Stephen, yes better concentration, but I stacked Alpha GPC with Aniracetam. No side effects.
Positive results were measured by an increase in verbal fluency, memory, alertness yet not inducing any anxiety.
