Ok so I am trying to fill up each 'category' for nootropics in my stack, when I say category I mean a nootropic for memory, focus, stimulant, etc. While some affect multiple categories some have more specific effects. Anyways, I already have ones for the 'categories' mentioned above, but I don't have any for stress-reduction, and I thought it would be good to have one I guess. The two that I have narrowed it down to, and what I want an opinion on is between "Theanine" and "Bacopa". They are both stress-reducers, but I have also heard that each one has some other unique characteristics that are beneficial as well. I don't know what they are so if anyone has experience either of these, I would like to hear more about it, which is better to go with, or maybe if either is worth having. I have also wanted to try sulbutiamine for a while now, but the only thing that continues to bother me a lot is that it is a fat soluble, I don't like that at all because sometimes I don't have time to eat. When it comes to nootropics I only like pill form, drink with water, and go. So any opinion on this would be awesome.

Thanks

Bacopa is by far the best nootropic I have tried to date. It motivates me, improves memory, and helps reduce stress. It is known to act on Ach and GABA receptors, as well as being a 5-HT agonist. Its effects do vary with brand, I've personally had success with AOR.

Theanin is anxiolytic and keeps you calm by increasing GABA. You can also try Taurine.

Other considerations are Lemon Balm (Melissa), Holy Basil, and low dose SSRIs. Substances that reduce stress tend to be sedating so one must find a good balance that will not put one to sleep. Anyway, there is a thread on this called Anxiety Considerations that you might find useful: http://www.longecity...ly-effectively/

wow, I have heard some unique things about bacopa, but I've never heard anyone pick a herb over a chemically synthesized nootropic as their best. I use some nootropics on a daily basis like Omega-3 and others on specific occasions only like Huperzine A for studying for exam. In your opinion should you use these stress reducing nootropics on a daily basis? Also have you had any personal experience with Lemon Balm?

Yes, use them on a daily basis. The effects take time to build.

I use Lemon Balm the whole month of exams. It helps me from getting too fired up and anxious. If anxiety persists, I'll use prescription clonazepam.

I wont take more than wat the package recommends in terms of balance. But like you said other than both of those (Bacopa and Lemon Balm) being GABA stress reduce types, they also have some unique things as well right? If you had to pick just one ( cuz i have short budget) whit would it be? Another thing, u said it acts on Ach receptors does that mean I will have too much Acetylcholine or something if I take one of these, along with other stuff like CDP Choline?

If its strictly for stress, go with Lemon Balm.

Bacopa is kind of all in one deal. The biggest effect is motivation. I wouldn't worry about too much neurotransmission as bacopa has minor effects and are mostly related to regulating receptors.

Every substance has unique things not just the one it is best known for. And different people react differently to each substance.

Bacopa, although it does not motivate me (if anything, it can make me slightly unmotivated but its a nice anxiolytic/mood stabilizer)

I read a double-blind study that said lemon balm extract significantly improved the mathematical processing of these volunteers, would that just be due to reduction in stress caused by Lemon Balm?

Yes, for this reason I take 500mg at night, and 250mg spread throughout the day. If I have a more stressfull day, would take more bacopa to chill out. It is a balancing act between motivation and stress :)
