I wouldn't know the first thing about cancer, but whilst researching fungi I've seen numerous studies, articles, and mentions of their anti-cancer properties.
My memory is horrible, so I'm afraid I can't point out any in specific. Have a search for yourself.

There are data showing the potential activity of medicinal mushrooms in breast cancer treatment. Ganoderma lucidum has shown the most significant inhibitory effect on NF-κB activity in highly invasive breast cancer cells. Other medicinal mushrooms that have also been reported to produce biologically active substances, have been tested in in vivo or in vitro, and have demonstrated breast cancer inhibitory activity areAgaricus bisporus, A. brasiliensis, Trametes versicolor, Grifola frondosa, Inonotus obliquus, Lentinus edodes, Leucoagaricus americanus, Pleurotus ostreatus, Sparassis crispa, etc.

This is a good review on ketogenic diets and covers most of the current knowledge with appropriate references for further reading, including some comments on cancer (http://www.nature.co...cn2013116a.html).

So far as I am aware, there are no completed clinical trials which assess the effects of ketogenic diets on cancer, though there are several recruiting (see http://clinicaltrial...t&Search=Search).

I'm going on a ketogenic diet myself, but she doesn't want to try anything. This week they drained over a gallon of pleural effusion (which I assume is malignant). Thanks for your posts.

Jembe, I'm so sorry to hear to that things aren't going well. I hope this doesn't come across patronizing, but I know exactly what you're going through, it's very tough. All you can do is make her comfortable. You have my deepest sympathies.

Sorry to hear this Jembe.

kmoody, who is a medical student, and heads company that deals with medical research, says that there are no completed studies on the effects of ketogenic diets on cancer. It sounds like the ketogenic thing here is just a theory. I would advocate a balanced diet with a lot of steamed leafy greens and low in sugar and junk. Your body needs a balanced diet to fight off diseases.

Sorry to hear about your mom. I presume you have done the tests for HER2, ER and PR already. There are also 10% patients has FGFR1 amplification. For this target, you can use Ponatinib to treat. If you find a doctor willing to use this drug off-labelly and your mom is tested positively for FGFR1. You can give Ponatinib a try. It can give your mom several months more time as well as better quality of life. Good luck!

I'm sorry for your loss. I was just wondering your first post dates back to february; was that when she was first diagnosed?

Good luck.

The metastasis diagnosis was made in July '12, while the original breast cancer diagnoses were made in '98 and '02.
