Given the substantial problems with traditional iron supplementation, be it classical ferrous salts (sulphate, gluconate, fumarate etc.) or the infused and IM treatment, I was wondering if any Australians on the board had encountered the more novel iron supplements - the American Bifera and Proferrin, the Japanese isolated heme products, and Swedish/British Globifer?

As someone with continued problems with anaemia and insufficient ferritin, despite reasonably diligent management and investigations, the appeal of large doses of heme is intriguing.  The amino acid chelates (iron bisglycinate) seems to be the best available domestically, but the heme based products look, at a glance, much more promising.  I have yet to see any locally available, which is somewhat frustrating.

If anyone has thoughts on their merit, I would be most grateful.
