Hey guys,
Does anyone know if any of these drugs would be good for
a 3 year old who was just diagnosed with Fragile X syndrome?
Thanks

I'd be a bit dubious about giving anything to a 3 year old, to be honest. As with all medicine almost no studies are conducted with children so the only option is to pro rata adult dosage.

If pushed I guess I'd pick Piracetam, given its virtually flawless safety profile. Just been reading some posts about parents using Piracetam to treat their 6 month old children with Downs Syndrome.

Ampakines look like something worth keeping an eye on (at least in the absence of gene or FRMP therapy).

That's my £0.02 but this really calls for someone who knows what they're talking about (LifeMirage, Scott and others).

The key here would be to find out EXACTLY what is different in such kids and try to address that....However genetic syndromes generally affect multiple systems and I would not touch this with a 10 foot pole as I do not know enough.

I would second Jerome's mention of ampakines. The problem is that there are no currently ongoing studies in Fragile X. However, Cortex Pharm. will probably be the first down that road. You might contact them to see if you can be kept in the loop about upcoming Fragile X trials. I think that their current drug CX717 has an excellent safety profile. That would be a big consideration for me.
