After a lot of research I'm getting close to deciding on my first stack.

I want to start with one or two items that directly target memorisation, recall and focus.

I'm tossing up between Huperzine-A or galantamine complemented with either pyritinol or idebenone. Any comments regarding the respective merits apropos to memorisation, recall and focus would be greatly appreciated.

Pyritinol and idebenone as far as I know -- are not mutually exclusive.

I would choose galantamine over Huperzine-A because the literature indicate less or non-existent down-regulation to its effects.

I'm only looking at one or the other because this will be my first stack and I'm looking to start with one or two nootropics only. Any opinion as to their respective merits?

Please excuse the ignorance but I'm not quite sure what you mean by this. According to online glossaries, "down-regulation" refers to the reduced activity of a naturally occurring gene?

Studies on galantamine show its effects persist over time completely, whereas Huperzine-A may theoretically show reduced efficacy.

Thanks for the clarification. I have academic goals in mind with my first nootropics stack. I've seen it mentioned that Hup-A can be very useful used on heavy study days rather than every day. Perhaps it would be more effective in the long run under those circumstances. Do you have any opinions as to whether Hup-A or galantamine is more effective (even in the short term) in targeting memorisation and focus?

I can't help you there, sorry. Perhaps somebody else has an anecdote or more information to share.
