Hey all,

If you look it up, Autism is caused by an overactive mTOR in the BRAIN. This prevents autopathy...

Here's the thing, there's loads of text online about mTOR inhibitors, but are there any ones that target the brain.

If we find a mTOR inhibitor that targets the brain, then maybe we could find a cure for Autism.. Or at least it would have a positive  impact.

A guy also said on a ASD forum that when he fasted (did not eat any food) he had more empathy, sharing feelings, open with others , social ,etc. and what does fasting do? inhibit mTOR.

So come on guys, we can put our heads together and maybe, we can find something good.

I am 99.9% sure that your "autism" is not caused by the too many synapses or neurons, or mTOR in general; the cases where autism is caused by too many synapses, neurons or whatever, the person is usually unusually intelligent in an area and tends to also have physical characteristics of heightened developmental testosterone or growth hormone (large, broad body with clear masculine facial traits).

Autism has a sea of different causes, ranging from connective tissue gene disorders to oxytocin gene mutations, to much more.

We've already went through this in Coffee's thread on the mental health board.

Really? Thought we were above irrational deductions on Longecity. And for that 'humour', i would think reddit and/or Imgur is better suited for that kind of jests.

there is currently no proof for autistic individuals performing violent crimes based solely upon their mental dysfunction, and any interaction between autism and SSRIs have not been proved or even shown either.

Local and long-range functional connectivity is reduced in concert in autism spectrum disorders. http://www.ncbi.nlm....pubmed/23319621

Atypical resting synchrony in autism spectrum disorder. - http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/25116896

TAGSync neurofeedback can target these functional and structural abnormalities. A friend of mine has reversed quite a few of his autistic symptoms through training with this. In theory it may be possible to completely reverse it through this route, with extensive training. See here and here for more details.

I had been labelled with aspergers syndrome because of a collection of symptoms, and have had attention from mental health experts who back this up.

Suicidal depression, anxiety,  poor motor control, emotional outburst, above average intelligence tackling complex and ambitious projects (unsuccessfully), lack of social skills, unhealthy interest in one topic, inability to organise or see the big picture, you get the idea...

This has been going on for a long time and when I hit my mid thirties i decided the enough was enough. After 2 months on a clean, scrupulously engineered diet and well thought out supplements the depression, anxiety, motor control issues have gone completely.

The rest of my issues point to a Pre-Frontal Cortex disorder, and some HEG neurofeedback has backed up this suggestion. I was at one point given Fluoxetine and it just made me feel like a zombie for the 6 months i was on it, when I came off it I went crazy for a while.

The next step for me is an intense exercise plan (such as Freeletics) which has been proven to help with PFC issues.

I am also fascinated by EEG neurofeedback, can see completely how it could be of benefit in a multitude of physical & mental conditions and would like to acquire my own system to work on the low PFC activity and other areas of brain synchronisation. If it works I could see myself become quite evangelical about this particular technology.
