Hello, since 1 year approx. I started supplementing Taurine (sometimes stacked with Theanine and Caffeine), dosage is from 1 up to 3 gr daily, mainly because its ability to promote liver health (against fibrosis, apoptosis of stellate cells, etc.).

I never experienced mood changes, depression, manias, etc. but some recent reading about the Taurine as a GABA agonist able to downregulate GABA receptors made me thinking if should I stop that kind of supplement. Do you know if there is a valid alternative or a supplement/stack/whatever I can do to compensate and balance that GABA agonism ?

Thanks

1-3g doesn't seem that overkill. If you don't experience any negative side effects I wouldn't be too concerned.

GABA levels would generally regulate back to baseline over time. Many things affect GABA though, so it's pretty complicated to know what your 'baseline' is in the first place.

thanks, up to now the only side effect I noticed with an higher dose is an increased bile flow which oblige me to visit the toilet more than once with a greenish result

Modafinil plays well with Taurine and Caffeine on an occasional basis.  I'd start with Adrafinil, which is decidedly weaker, and move up from there.

this review might be interesting for long-term high supplementation of taurine http://www.iherb.com...ules/19138/?p=1

pretty awful, even if those look like the side effects of sulfur-based aminos and the result of a very unbalanced nutrition/supplementation, most long term studies I remember were no more than 2/3 years with no remarkable negative implications

I think, like with everything, not overdoing it is the message. I have 500mg tablets for occasional consumption and they work great.
