Hi,

Where can you buy about 20 grams of 5-HTP shipping internationally, please?

Greetings,
nebben

Why would you stay away from 5-htp? From what I gather from reading the first discussion, just don't stack it with any b6, right?

But who wants to restrict B6 given its health benefits? Even the amount in a multivitamin could cause 5-HTP to convert to serotonin on the wrong side of the blood brain barrier.

Best to take tryptophan instead of 5-HTP and avoid the heart risk all together.

no it would have to be taken 12 or more hours apart... its just not reasonable nor is it in my opinion safe.

you can get good USP trade tryptophan reasonably cheap now

oh I didn't read that part about it not being safe. So now I'm wondering, what is the FDA doing approving of 5-htp when a commonly used vitamin such as B6 will cause heart complicated when used together. Didn't they also ban trytophan because of some bad batch made from Japan?

The FDA approved 5-HTP? When, for what, and what company made the application? Just because the FDA allows something to be sold because it occurs naturally doesn't mean the FDA has "approved" it, or that it's incapable of doing harm. Government approval is not necessary for a natural substance to be sold (thank God).

Last time I looked, tryptophan can be purchased. It just can't be sold for human use after the Japan fiasco. What humans who buy it actually do with it is their business.

Nutraceutical buyers should always remember that as long as the field remains unregulated (as it should be), the responsibility for investigating safety, efficacy, and product quality is entirely up to the buyer. The infamous problem with tryptophan was apparently quality. The problem with 5-HTP is apparently intrinsic safety. There is no free lunch.

About a year ago I took a high recreational dose of Ritalin, as well as 5-htp, an SSRI, phenibut, and a high dose of Mucuna Pruriens extract (L-Dopa etc.). I suffered a horrible comedown from which I never recovered. For 9 months after I had terrible flatness; dullness of the mind. Then I started taking 5-htp and within a couple of days on 100mg x2 /day I was feeling my old self again. It is a life save for me. To hear this news is awful. The question is, how much serotinin in the body is too much, and how much 5-htp would you have to take for it to get to that level?
If I take a 5-HIAA test then how would I know if I had too much serotonin? Would the fact that the 5-htp works so well for me mean that most of it crosses the blood brain barrier perhaps?

Sorry, I don't know the answers to your questions, beyond infinity. Have you tried alternative methods to elevate serotonin, such as SSRIs or tryptophan? Have you tried reducing your dose of 5-HTP to see if you brain can adapt? Maybe after a year it no longer really needs a chemical crutch, and would up-regulate its own serotonin given a chance.

Anyway, at least you know not to take B6 supplements if you are taking 5-HTP.

Does the fact that B6 is water-soluble have any relevancy? Maybe you can switch off days of taking B6 and 5-htp, or just switch to trytophan. Also, how is your sleep?

This article by monster maker nicely wraps up the 5-htp discussion. Especially in the note at the end of the article.
But they do not sell powder.

I see you have 5htp for $1 a gram. That's the best price I think I've seen on it. I believe it's the first time I saw it offered in bulk. Finally a break on 5htp.

Deprenyl powder is not that hard to provide. Problem is how to dose it? taking 1-5 mg a day is pretty hard if not impossible with home equipment. Specially considering it could be dangerous if you take 50mg instead of 5mg.

It could be delivered with a special scoop or as a mixture, but maybe deprenyl is too dangerous anyway.
