I'll get straight to the point...

Anyone still taking ALCAR? I used it for a year with beneficial metabolic/mitochondrial effects, but eventually dropped it due to the anxiety and mild depression it was causing me. Trying to restart it now at a lower dose.

Those who are using it-what physical and nootropic changes are you seeing?

Didn't like it because the presumably increased acetylcholine made me feel hyperemotional/overly excited. The increased acetylcholine is likely what makes you depressed and anxious.

I'm using it. Bought it in bulk 2 years ago, tried it for a week or two and it did absolutely nothing for me. Over a year ago, i started taking NAC daily (as a part of a bigger stack) for several various reasons with some subtle improvements in various areas. Several months ago, i rediscovered ALCAR sitting in my closet and started mixing it with NAC solution first thing in the AM. The taste of that combo is OK, very acidic and better than NAC alone. Initially, I didn't feel anything different, but in time I realized it have me extra brain clarity and work motivation. If i skip ALCAR, the boost is missing.

So, the lesson form this is, there are 3 variables: each of us are different, we are different in different times/states, and finally the interaction with the other meds/supplements may play a role. YMMV.

I just started using it in a nootropic "Brain Boost and Memory" stack I put together consisting of:

CDP Choline
Sulbutiamine
Acetyl-L-Carnitine (ALCAR)
Hauperzine A
L-Theanine
Caffeine
ALA

So far so good, liking it.
