The Toronto Transhumanist Association will be hosting an introductory talk on transhumanism on Wednesday March 22, 2006 at 7:00 PM. The meeting will be held on University of Toronto Campus, at OISE (Ontario Institute for Studies in Education) , 252 Bloor St. West - Rm. 2227 (on the second floor). George Dvorsky, President of the Toronto Transhumanist Association, will be speaking.

I didn't know where else to post this, since there is no Canada regional thread, but I'm going, and hope to persuade anyone else in the general area to come also.

I don't see a reason why we can't put a Canadian forum in.

Well, I just talked to Jay and he asked me to get back to him with it sometime early next week. Right now we are dealing with a lot of technical issues so the smaller things are going to have to be put on the back burner for the moment. [thumb]

A little more info on Wednesday night, for any lurkers or Ontario people who will hopefully come to this growing group. http://toronto.transhumanism.com/ is the group's site, but I warn you - it's rarely updated.

Just in case you've never been the U of T campus before, it's being held at OISE -

The meeting, in my opinion, was a success. George Dvorsky gave a great talk about the basics of transhumanism, it's history, it's practical applications, a great general overview for the first-timer, which there were a lot of. Life-extension was touched on briefly. It was interesting to note that some of the guests present were dedicated humanists from the Humanist Association of Toronto, and were interested in what it was all about.

I am pleased to report that upon mentioning imminst to Simon from betterhumans.com (I got there early, lol), he said nothing but good things about "Bruce and all those guys" [tung] [thumb]

Anyways, they hope to make it a more frequent event, so anyone in the GTA is more than welcome to come. The turnout was approximately 30.
