Dear friends, since lately I had to continue mainly myself, probably you are very bussy in your exams etc, so I consulted with Ilia and accordingly decided to register a domain name which will not carry the title immortality, since in Israel there is an active movement who carry that name and they believe that by faith alone they can achieve immortality and we think it is better for us not to be associated with them. so the title preferred was longevity and by checking I choose the title super-longevity.org which i registered and paid for. i decided to not to choose the il suffix, since it much more costly. you know that we have applied to WTA World Transhumanist Association to host our website [see below] stressing our longevity, immortality and our own creativity and got that reply today:
On Mon, 20 Mar 2006 19:15:45 -0300, "Marcelo Rinesi" said:> David, hi. James just gave the OK for the website! Give a couple of days to set up something for you on our server. best regards, Marcelo

follow is the content of a reply i intend to send to Marcelo Rinesi who is in charge of WTA website. if somebody have any objection let me know soon.
i think our Hebrew name should be as suggested:
העמותה הישראלית לאריכות ואיכות חיים.
אך בהתחלה לפני רישום עמתה נסתפק בשם האירגון הישראלי לאריכות..

Thank you Marcelo Rinesi. i am happy to hear that. i have already registered domain name: "super-longevity.org" this name is chosen since we in israel think we can reach to people through longevity meme and continue with more encompassing transhumanism. also the flyer i have prepared to distribute is titled - "live long enough to live forever - longevity and beyond, what the forthcoming technolgies have in store for you"
if we affiliated to WTA we will wholeheartedly identify ourselves with it and since we are hosted in WTA server all the links etc will go faster. there is another option that we will have domain name like trashumanism.org.il etc, but people here think, including myself that longevity meme is helpfull in reaching out to first timers. also 99.99% of the people here never heard about transhumanism, but many more heard about longevity and the Israelis in general are very practical, they will tend to ask - how is that applied to me? Moreover , most of our participants come from ImmInst.il but certainly we all are open to the whole range transhumanism and even singularitarianism as integral part of our organization.

some modification to to previous post. i have just got a new mai from Marcelo Rinesi: David, hi. I'm sorry, I wasn't as clear as I should have been. We cannot host a site with a different domain on the server; it's a leased, shared, server, and we don't have that kind of control over it. What we can do is to set up a sub-site at http://www.transhumanism.org/israel , but, as you say, 'longivity' might be a better branding.
Let me know what you want to do.
best regards,
Marcelo

in that case friends let me know soon what is your stance regarding www.transhumanism.org.il or do you prefer super-longevity.com. in that case we have to find hosting server and build a web-site which will cary expenses of around 100 sh a month or hosting in free webhosting like Tapuz or yahoo/geocities etc. but the main problem i see is webbuilding, which we can have free and ready i suppose in transhumanism.org

Well done, David!
I don’t see any reason why we can’t post our materials in multiple sites: here at Imminst, at WTA Israel, at transhumanism.org/israel, at tapuz, etc. It will only increase exposure.
Between transhumanism.org and longevity.org, I would choose longevity.org for practical reasons. And of course we will have to share expenses.

As my knowledge of web-design is approximately zero, I trust you guys and can only contribute articles and translations (to any site relevant :).
Just a little summary of suggestions so far:

http://www.transhuma....php/wta-israel -- exists
http://communa.tapuz...l/Transhumanism -- exists
http://israblog.nana...asp?blog=225403 -- exists
http://groups.yahoo....shumanreligion/ -- exists
http://www.transhuma...languages/C126/ -- exists
http://www.imminst.o...s=&act=SF&f=181 – Imminst Israel -- exists

Other possibibilities:

Imminst.org/israel/
transhumanism.org.il
longevity.org.il
super-longevity.org.il
pro-longevity.org.il
www.immortals.co.il
immortransIS.org
immortality.co.il
transhumanism.co.il
www.qlinst.org.il

Name : «Hatnua haisraelit learichut veeichut haim, immortalism vetranshumanism »

BTW, What’s your guys opinion about setting up a series of seminars. That’s something I could help with (auditorium, recruitment, advertising). A seminar format seems to be superior to simply an informal gathering (though one doesn’t exclude the other).
Does anybody wish to present a topic?
Some possible topics: “Immortalism in the pre-modern age”,
“Life-extensionism at the beginning of the 20th century”, and the more ambitious “Life-extensionism at the beginning of the 21st century”.
Any suggestions?

PS. Indeed, as none of us is really an expert in web-building, perhaps for the time being we can start experimenting with the free and fully supported transhumanism.org/israel and see how it goes.
This of course doesn't exclude the possibility that Eli suggested, as it can only increase exposure. The site looks great!! [thumb]

First of all, good work on the website!
Second, I'm very much in favour of a seminar series and will be glad to help organize it, if there's a serious interest. I can easily get speakers in biomedical fields such as stem cells and gene therapy.

Is www.transhumanism.org/israel operational already?

Got to notify people on WTA Israel posting list about both sites.
Just a reminder, one can join this list at:
http://www.transhuma...info/wta-israel

Hi, Danny. The seminar series would be excellent! Perhaps, we could start small: a pilot seminar with 2-4 presentations by ImmInst/WTA members (i.e. us). Then we could proceed to inviting lecturers. I believe we could do the pilot within a month or two. To such an event we could invite people outside the forum. Does anyone wish to present in such a tentative mini-conference?

so i will notify Marcelo about our consent to www.transhumanism.org.il etc. we were discussing with Eli options of sites, but he disappeared without a notice, but reappeared on Yapuz komunot with this option of transhumanism. this is a bite anarchic way to act, but maybe anarchy is one mode transhumanism and web activity has to accommodate?
as for the seminar idea, excellent. this is much better idea than just informal meeting, but i suggest that some of us will give presentations, short or longer according to time limits. i want to give presentation about technological singularity and Kurzweil Law of Accelerating returnes. and one more presentation about: present strategies of longevity as integral part of current transhumanists. finally what about this domain which i have registered super-longevity.org ?

Hi guys.

David, I did not dissappear. Your zahav mail address is problematic. I sent you two mails, a long one concerning what we should do in the future(that was sent a week ago), and the second is a reply to the mail where you asked what happened to me. It's been a few days since I sent the second mail and there was no reply yet, so I assume it didnt reach you.

If you'd like, I can get you an invite to gmail so that you'll be able to both read mail in hebrew and to actually receive it.

I also mentioned many times both on this forum and on my mails to you that usually i'm out of reach during working days so my replies could be delayed.

In any case, and especially knowing that your email is problematic(we already had this problem before), me not replying for a few days does not warrant appearing on the tapuz commune and accusing me of non collegiality. Especially when considering the fact that the commune is a place to promote the idea, not to post negative looking accusations at others.

Since you already reposted the other contents of the post that contained your accusations, I have deleted that post. The place for such dissagreements is on this forum, not on Tapuz.

For future record, if there will be any problems, the content of the deleted post is:
"ñåôø îééðã, ÷øàúé àú äøùåîä ùìê òì èøðñäåîðéæí åäéà îöåééðú, î÷öåòéú åäçåîø ãåîðé äëé øöéðé ùéù ìðå òã ëä áòáøéú. àðé îöéò ìäòìåú øùåîä æàú ùìê ëîáåà äøéùîé ùì ä÷åîåðä äæàú. îä ãòúëí ?

Eli’s initiative is excellent! I am myself a bit of a Tolstoyan anarchist, I don’t believe in directives, I believe in cooperation and mutual aid. Such sites (or other activities including oral and textual presentations) will only help disseminate our ideas and attract new people, and we should support them as much as we can.

As for “super-longevity,” since it is already registered, and if anyone has the desire and knowledge to develop it, then why not have it as well. As I mentioned, I personally can’t do much except for contributing a couple of articles. If anyone asks “what’s our official site(s)?”, I guess ImmInst and the future transhumanism.org.il is the answer. ImmInst has been our home for quite a while, and I don’t see why and how it could change (though we might have to do something about the Hebrew alignment problem :).

To subscribe to WTA Israel posting list, just click the link above, fill in the upper fields and press “subscribe”. The admin of this list is the very same Marcelo. There are wonderful people on that list – most of them are in ImmInst as well. There hasn’t been much discussion there: just a couple of introductions. Perhaps with the creation of transhumanism.org.il, it will change.

Again, there seems to be nothing wrong with having and supporting both sites.

So, David, Eli, two thumbs up again for you guys [thumb] [thumb]

As for Tapuz, our current status there is such:

The unimportant issues:
An introduction post containing the translation of section 1.1 of the Transhumanist FAQ is in place.
In the links section, there are links to major sites such as wta, imminst and extropy inst. There are links to a number of English articles taken from the WTA resources section and links to the two articles Adi translated for WTA.
There are some images from WTA in the album section.

And the important issue: Traffic
Currently with the exception of myself and David there are 3 other members, and all of them are active. One of them is someone who is already deeply familiar with the idea and even wrote a long introduction post on his Tapuz blog roughly a year ago. Which means that he can help us, being not new to the idea.

The reason for this low number is that we didnt spread the word yet. The other two members came from another commune where I was discussing stuff with people and mentioned our commune.
This should be the method of spreading the word. Adding the commune link to the user sig and starting to talk all around Tapuz. Currently this is not being done because I dont have the time and I invite you all to join. Hopefully I'll do this a bit during this weekend.

David, did Marcelo give any indication when transhumanism.org/israel will be operational?

By the way, we are now registered as a WTA chapter in the Africa and Middle East region.

Doh. Africa.

While the page you linked to says "Africa and the Middle East", in the "find chapters" section there is only an "Africa" subsection. Israelis stumbling upon the WTA site are definetely not going to look for Israel under "Africa".

Yes. Got to clarify this point to the admin. Hopefully, there will be other chapters in our area. There seems to be not a single word in Arabic on any major transhumanist or life-extensionist site -- which is a great shame.

Hi, Guys.

I am now trying to get the approval of Bar Ilan History of Science department to organize a series of seminars on Transhumanism/Life-extensionism, where we could present our ideas both to transhumanists/immortalists and interested outsiders, and thus spread the word and build up membership. However, the first thing I was asked by the Department was to see our "official" website. Since we don't have one, and none of us is really an expert in web-design – a presentable Israeli sub-site under WTA could really help the cause.

So, if we are going with transhumanism.org/Israel, Marcelo asks for our suggestions on the site content and visual design:

Here's what he says:

"If the idea is to have a section of the existing WTA site focusing on WTA-Israel, that's doable. Do you already have the material you want there: texts, images, etc? Any specific ideas about content and structure?"

best regards,
Marcelo

So Any specific ideas about content and structure? Texts? Images?

we have already translated, edited, written some articles and relevant material. some of it already posted here, some in the commune and some under work now. we all have so many other obligations, so we can proceed slowly, but hopefully surely too. so this site can be the main pool of the incipienct transhumanism immortalism in Israel. best regards. Eli, David, and everybody, I invite you to send your materials and suggestions to Marcelo mrinesi@fibertel.com.ar so he can start cooking the site.

As for the seminar, we already have three tentative volunteers with great topics.

It will probably be on WTA's transhumanism.org server.

Here's what James Hughes says:

"We keep offering hosting to national chapters, and we'd be delighted if
you set up in a http://transhumanism...dex.php/israel/ directory on
our site.

Marcelo can set it up, and assign editing privileges to whoever you
think is appropriate."

I believe all Israeli ImmInst and WTA members should have posting and editing privileges (provided we don't edit each other out :).
