Have started AMPH (common formulation, extended release at 8-10 hours) for ADHD, and am wondering if anyone has tried replenishing dopamine/norepinephrine reserves with Tyrosine at night, to mellow the withdrawal?

I've been taking it just once a week, and I am fried for 3 days afterwards. Depressed, slow, low-pleasure. I have been experimenting with Tyrosine and it DOES bring back some of the good feeling, but it also seems to lengthen the amount of time I take to recover fully from the effects of the AMPH.

I'm going to start taking it every day, maybe for the first 3 days of the week: Mon-Wed, to be super effective and focused, then go off it for the other 4. But I want to be fully recovered from the comedown by the weekend.

What I'm going to try is completely flushing the AMPH every night with vitamin C + Mag + cranberry juice + baking soda. And do that regimen throughout the day, on the days I go off it.

In that way I hope to blunt the oxidative damage done to the DAT and dopaminergic neurons -- since we know this stuff is neurotoxic.

Anyone successfully taking it for years, without having to increase your dosage? That would be a huge success in my view.

If it takes 3 days to recover the first thing I'd wonder is if the dose is too high.  If a lower dose doesn't bring benefit, then I'd try a different stimulant like dexedrine if you're taking adderall now, vyvanse, or one of the many methylphenidate preparations.  If that still doesn't work out than try non-stim options like strattera, reboxetine, and wellbutrin or even a couple of the tricyclics that studies have shown efficacy in treating adhd.

I just don't see a way that a 3 day hangover can be managed with supplements or prescriptions.  Now it's not uncommon to experience a comedown effect in the evening that mostly goes away by the time you wake up and/or have some trouble sleeping that night and that is something more manageable with supplements and/or prescriptions.
