I've recently been reflecting about a couple of things in my life and started to think about how my mind works.

I suspect something might be wrong. I don't really "feel" things the way others do, come to think of it I don't feel it all.

I'm never excited, happy, sad, melancholic, I never feel any of these emotions and can't for the life of me remember having done so.

I psysically enjoy eating, carbs mainly..and I can experience endorphins after working out, but I think there's something wrong about my dopaminergic system.

Everytime I've drunk alcohol, I only get the physical effects of impaired movement, speech and cognition - there's no real joy derived from it.

Come to think of it, none of the things I do in life are really volitional, they are based on momentum, and me considering them to be beneficial for me in the long-term(working out, studying at college, eating healthy).
During my teens I was always the one who just "came along", come to think of it, I've never ever been the one to initiate social events or suggest things to do, there's never been any motivation to.

A couple of years ago I tried an SSRI(Flouxetine) - it had zero effect on me.

From my research it seems like this could be a dopamine deficiency. If this were the case, how would one go about fixing this?

Mucuna Pruriens also has no effect on me, no matter how many grams I take. I literally feel nothing at all from it, even on empty stomach in the morning.

Started with 500 mg, no effect..same for 5 grams, felt nothing. How can this be?

Emotional numbness is no fun so I'm going to try supplementing with L-tyrosine, B6(P5P) and Copper for a while before reaching out to a doctor.

I've already checked my levels of Vitamin D3, magnesium, calcium, iron, thyroid, prolactin and testosterone. All came back normal.

Yep sounds like anhedonia, got pretty much the same "symptoms".

Are you overweight? the only time I felt good was when I was around 10% bodyfat.

But I have an insatiable hunger for carbs which makes it very hard to stay that lean, just the thought of working out feels like torture atm.

Coffee made me feel really good, maybe even manic for a couple weeks when I started with it (never drank coffee before that) but tolerance builds up fast.

Coupled with exercising when I started coffee, I even felt extremely euphoric, but like I said that didnt last very long.

Intermittent fasting seems to be the best approach for me, that way I had some energy to do things.

After eating I always feel tired/depressed never energized never feeling satisfied.

Tried countless supps/drugs but nothing really helped long term.

I would advice not to use drugs, adderall may make you feel awesome for a couple days, but it is not sustainable.

I have never seen a positive story about someone using for 5 years or longer without any issues.

90% regret it and feel even worse down the line.

It seems really hard to fix, as it is a combination of so many things.

Sorry that I can`t give you anything more substantial, you read a lot of stuff online about people "fixing" their anhedonia,

but it's usually only a small manic episode and most go back to the way they were before.

Update:

Have tried 3x 3g of L-leucine an hour before two meals and before breakfast together with 25 mg Vitamin B6 today and yesterday, felt no difference at all. Some people report of headaches with such doses but I got nothing like that. Odd. Won't upp the dose though, that'd be crazy.

Hey,

Ye no, I'm at a normal, healthy weight. I've been strength-training all of my adult life so I'm kinda fit. Like you, I feel much better at a lower body-fat level.

I have done the intermittent fasting thing(16/8) for a couple of months before, my mind felt somewhat clearer, but it had no impact on the emotional numbness sadly.

I drink coffee daily, mostly for the health benefits and morning-habit, there's no real cognitive effects for me, but that's probably just the tolerance built up over time.

Turns out there was something far bigger going on.

Apparantly I've been anaemic. For 3 days I've been taking about 50 mg of ferrous iron supplements and feel so much better.

I don't eat red meat, maybe once a month, so I don't get heme-iron from my diet; and I've always been drinking either tea/coffee with my meals and these both can reduce iron absorption by >50 %. Eggs and calcium also have a big effect on absorption, both of which also are a huge part of my diet.

God fkin damnit...
