Mint Chocolate Chip 26 September 2011

It's a hot day. Yesterday I checked out a new Jamaican restaurant. I don't know if I will be able to eat there because I have a hard time tolerating spicy food, but I had to go in and get a menu. They have a drink made of sorrel and another made from Irish Moss that is an aphrodisiac. The floor had a broken glass mosaic.

I got my usual ribs from the place next door. The proprietor was pressed because she was the only person there. I tried to say as little as possible. I went to a film festival but it didn't turn out that well. Got into a argument with some people running the festival, but it was on them. There was some bad behavior. There were words. There was an apology, but it was over for me. Didn't make for a great night, but I had some Margaritas and that turned it around as much as possible.

Today I went to a hair appointment but on the way I saw some abusive behavior towards a child and I stopped to report it. I got the license number. I had a consultation with a potential backup hairdresser but it didn't work out. I was disappointed. I was told she would be good at cutting my type of hair. She looked like the last person left in a dive bar at closing time. Also she wasn't adaptable to using my products or other stuff I wanted. That didn't serve her well, but that is how it is with hairdressers. She also said she'd cut curly hair without washing it first, just wetting it. Sounds potentially negligent, although it's hard to know. So--a bust. There was a bead and jewelry show at that mall so I went to see it. There were some nice things but acquiring them didn't look like it was in line with my priorities. It was quite hot. That was the trendy boutique mall when I was young in the seventies, with the frozen yogurt, Harpo's pizza and stores full of cute things. Teenagers wanted to go there. Now, it looks substantially the same but people are not as numerous. It was never so hot before. There are homeless people as there are everywhere here after the government displaced them from the large parks and nature areas where they (and everyone else) was better off. I spent as much time as I could there. There used to be a Borders in the area and that made it for me. As of a few weeks ago, it's gone.

I went down to the industrial piers to look for a couple of restaurants that are supposed to be down there and have really fresh fish. There is a real sense of scale down there, huge buildings, vast spaces, six story silo's of flour, ships the size of football fields. This tends to be a small place, so I like to see something on a grand scale. I again failed to locate these restaurants. Then I came to this other mall because it is air-conditioned. They didn't have mint chocolate chip ice cream at the drugstore like before! That was disappointing and should probably be illegal. In fact, it is illegal. I had to get some jacked up organic ice cream at Whole Foods. Six something a pint. At least it tasted substantially like ice cream. There was an older man I shared a table with whose wife had vamoosed on him. She was supposed to be clothes shopping but he was having trouble locating her. She had turned off her cell phone. The mall would not page without an emergency.

I wish I had a nice movie to go to. I tried. When they ruin movies for people, what do they have?
