The perils of citric acid allergies 04 March 2008
Have you ever tried to find soaps and shampoos without citric acid in them?
I have a topical allergy. Well ok, I get a histamine reaction when I eat things with citric acid too, but thats easier to live with. As long as I limit my intake. Citric acid == itchy breakout after showering. This appears to run in my family.
The problem is, most shower gels, shampoos, and conditioners have citric acid.
I've found, after much effort and experimentation and a lot of reading of tiny labels, the following work for me:
- Neutrogena rainbath
- Goats Milk soap (some of them at least)
- Redken Scalp Relief Soothing Balance shampoo and conditioner.
- Nioxin
Nioxin is quite expensive unless mail ordered, and I can't find my Redken type where I've moved to, so I'll probably have to mail order that too.
Man I'd like to buy a new immune system. At least I missed out on the family Asthma and rheumatoid arthritis (so far). I can't wait until killing off your entire immune system and then restarting it without the errors is routine. Neither can a lot of people with far worse auto-immune issues I bet.
