Meetings/seminars
ilia 25 Apr 2006
Hi guys.
We got a permission to use Bar Ilan Hist of Sci seminar room for our meetings whenever we feel like it. It can accommodate up to 15-20 people. It’s in Bar Ilan, Katz building (also known as Moreshet Israel 604 building), third floor. If we see that there can be a greater turnover, we can squatter in a bigger room.
So if anyone has any suggestions about presentations, topics for discussion, date, time, etc.? We already got presentation suggestions from Danny, Frida, Avi, Daniel, David and me. The date could probably depend on the readiness of presentations. Another question is how should we proceed about it: do it for our own group (~20 people)? Invite the whole world? Etc. What do you guys think?

June seems fine, I hope that I will be able to attend.
We need to decide which presentations to present on the firs meeting.
I reckon that the total presentations time should be no more then 2 hours.

I think 6 speakers at ~20 minutes/talk sounds just about right...(assuming each presents one topic, of course)...
ilia 01 May 2006
Yes. I also think so. Perhaps even 30 min for each one, including some time for discussion. Giving the stage to all who have prepared presentations, will be “fair”. It will also give a great diversity to our meetings, which will become more interesting.
I hope we don’t run out of topics on the very first meeting. If our topics are too extensive to be covered in 30 min, we can do them in sequels. Let’s tentatively say, we could, for a meanwhile, meet monthly. This could become a real study course.

i wholeheartedly support your initiative Ilia, i suggest we invite the whole world, and since i am optimist i believe 20 seats will suffice for the first time
alex83 02 May 2006
First, I think that two speakers with presentations of about forty minutes each will be more then enough.
Second, chances are that the first few meetings will not be very successful. Therefore,
there is no need to invite anyone except for the people that are already interested in the topic.

There is a person I am sure I can drive into all this.. mmmm.. Shai Weisberg is a writer, immortalist from my aspect. He is a passive immortalist, BUT his books as he claimed do have relations to these things and his view is similar to mine on life, survival, and all. I should speak with him more of this.

I am not sure on which basis we can start giving priorities at this stage - vote? Lottery? But, let’s see who and when prepares the presentations. Then we can plan better. I suspect we won’t be overwhelmed. (I hope mine will be ready by the end of this month). Again, there may be an advantage in having a few shorter presentations over one or two long ones – the diversity may make the meetings more interesting.

That I fully agree with. According to stats, there are now about 50 Israeli ImmInst and WTA members. Of course, as we all know, only a dozen are active. But still, if we invite only “us” and a few of our friends who are really interested in the subject (like that writer, Adi’s friend) – that could provide excellent attendance, even at the initial stage, and will help establish our group, which is perhaps the most important thing.

Hi, guys. What’s up?
Is anyone interested in having this meeting anytime soon (say in two or three weeks)? Any presentations ready? I have just given a talk on life-extensionism in our department, so I am personally more or less ready.
Danny, Alex, David, Daniel? How are your talks coming along? Would be great to hear your thoughts.

Tongue as in the use of tongues to refer to *language*?
If that is the case you are translating too literally )
Otherwise I am very curious about the mode of study in that class. [wis]

Ah yeah, they teach us how to kiss properly...
[lol]
Yes, it was a literal translation, it is "language", or just "Hebrew", this would probably be one of the hardest exams. English is soooo much easier.
Such a useless lesson, as all the Semitic languages are so bloody hard!
Those who go study that, study that in order to be a "Lashon" teacher, which teaches other how to become ones ^^ heh. Such a useless circle, seriously, Laz you don't wanna learn Hebrew!

My talk won’t be ready anytime soon since I am very busy lately, sorry. I will be glad to listen to others though.

If you prefer any specific day or time, please let know.
As per "lashon", I wish I took it, wouldn't have had this heavy Russian accent now [tung] .

What is your opinion about meeting for a seminar in Bar-Ilan on Friday, November 17, ~10am (or Friday, Nov. 24, if Nov. 17 is problematic)?
