Companies that sell inferior resveratrol

TheFountain's Photo TheFountain 27 Apr 2009

I am considering purchasing some country life resveratrol because I am on a more tight budget than usual this month, but am kind of paranoid about its purity/potency. Is there a list of companies to avoid anywhere? Basically the product claims transresveratrol 100 mgs per cap which means I would take about 4 per day till my next pay check (when i'd buy from revgenetics again) so I wanted to make sure I am getting something worth my time even for the next two weeks.

I would be concerned about the amount of emodin in any 50% resveratrol capsule at that dose. Country life has responded to one poster's queries that their emodin content is under 4%, but it will vary from batch to batch. The capsule also contains grape seed extract, which some posters have associated with a stimulant-like effect, as well as pine bark, so it is strictly speaking not pure resveratrol.

If I were limited to what I could get in a local health-food store such as vitamin shoppe or health nuts, I would use a Milk Thistle extract standardized to contain the highest percentage of silymarin that I could find. Like resveratrol it is a P53 deacetylase, and shares many of resveratrol's effects. This is not an official recommendation, just my opinion based on my own research and self-testing.

Actually revgenetics has some R300 on sale so I think I will probably take advantage of that when the day arrives. Have any studies been done to confirm similar activity in resveratrol and milk thistle extract? I haven't heard anything about this till now.
