Micronized Powder
Marc P 23 Jul 2009
I just got the RevG M98 micro Powder and I am mixing it with my whey protein shake in the morning.I was thinking about premixing the two powders and putting them in small single serving dark containers so its easy to mix up a shake in the morning after my workout.
My question is :
Will the resveraltrol loose potency if it sits with the whey mix to long?
It may be a silly question ,but I really dont know much about this stuff yet.
Thx Marc

I think it's ok to pre-mix because of it and keep it in the fridge, just maybe not pre-mix for a whole month... more like a few days to a week. Overtime, the res that does not bind to the b-lactoglobulin will probably still settle at the bottom, so you will need to shake it up like most "tonics" out there.
Since you are just mixing for less than a day, I don't think there would be an issue.

From this 1996 study:
"Brent C. Trela and Andrew L. Waterhouse*
Department of Viticulture and Enology, University of California, Davis, California 95616"
http://pubs.acs.org/....1021/jf9504576
The conclusions state the following:
trans-Resveratrol should be handled with caution, but can be handled in the laboratory without stringent lighting precautions, whereas cis-resveratrol cannot.
Laboratory lighting conditions favor an equilibrium of about 91% cis-resveratrol.
Low pH causes cis-resveratrol isomerization to the trans isomer, a sterically more stable form. Some literature reports of cis-resveratrol are inaccurate and were addressed here.
It appears that at Ph of Pepsi (no, I personally prefer Pepsi over Coke.. sorry guys) has a Ph of about 3 or lower, and maybe good to "pre-mix" for those concerned with a very old batch of res that has turned into Cis-resveratrol... well, at least for those that don't mind the sugar high... :D
Another quote from the study:
cis-resveratrol degraded at pH 10.0 with a half-life of 63.7 h (Figure 7). cis-Resveratrol was stable at pH 7.0 (CV ) 0.7%), and less stable at pH 3.5 (CV ) 2.6%); however, at pH 1.0 isomerization to trans-resveratrol was efficient after 22.8 h (t1/2), 50% of the cis form had isomerized to the trans isomer nm).
and another...
Sample dry-down operations with rotary evaporation
were checked for resveratrol stability, and contrary to
Pezet et al. (1994) and McMurtrey et al. (1994), no
degradation of trans-resveratrol was observed after
evaporation of alcohol, confirmed by Jeandet even when
heated at 40 °C (unpublished results) or in buffers at
various pH values except for the pH 10.0 buffer.
of course, your gut has a Ph of about 1, so that may help as well.

I am talking about pre-mixing the powder alone, not with the milk or water.
The beta-lactoglobulin is supposed to bind to the res and protect it from light and make it more soluble.

Anthony,
I am talking about pre-mixing the powder alone, not with the milk or water.
If the powders are dry, there should be no interaction on mixing them

Sorry, when folks have talked about pre-mixing they always mentioned premixing the micronized res with an oil, milk, whey protein shake, etc.
I don't think there are issues with it being refrigerated, however like most loose powders, I would put it in the crisper.
Cheers

I said nothing about storing in the refrigerator.I just want to know if I can mix the powders and store them in a small (non transparent)container, like a small pill vile. That way I dont have to play chemist in the car and spill everything all over the place.
I will not store the containers in the car.I will keep them at home and bring one a day to my workout.

Thanks for posting that guys. Im keeping my pouch in a zip lock bag with a dessicant pack. I noticed a direct increase in energy and stamina upon my first day of adding 300 mgs of the powder to my existing 412 mgs (oral and transdermal combined) Resveratrol dose.
Hi, I'm new,
Any suggestions about the micronized mixed into transdermal delivery?

Some swear by it, but the science says it doesn't work.Any suggestions about the micronized mixed into transdermal delivery?

Marc: I am a retired Chemical Engineer. I understand that Resveratrol is a very strong anti-oxidant. The longer you mix it, the more it will degrade. Aging studies on wine and liquid Resveratrol showed total loss of potency 3 days after opening the bottle. Tight recapping did not prevent loss of potency. Micro crystals should be more stable but condensation will activate oxidation process. For these reasons I chose to use an oil encapsulated, lab certified product called Rhythmatix.
My wife and I have been using Rhythmatix for a month. The Resveratrol is placed in fish oil, protected by Vit E, 75 mg CoQ10, and another bamboo extract, Unibex, anti-oxidant in a nitrogen purged capsule. Two small capsules yield a dose of 125 mg Resveratrol. It is sold in bottles of 120 caps, so 125 mg Resveratrol/day = $50/month retail. Rhythmatix has had 4 human clinical trials conducted on the mixture and is sold as a healthy heart supplement. No stomach problems. I am an active 64 yr old male, no meds, excellent blood numbers. I follow recommendations of The Metabolic Plan by Stephen Cherniske.

I would say that resveratrol is an antioxidant, but it's not all that strong; not to the point that it's wildly unstable. The wine and liquid resveratrol studies are demonstrating that stability problems are much more prevalent in solution than in the solid phase. I agree with you about the condensation problem; I store my powdered supplements at room temperature for that very reason. Rhythmatix sounds interesting; I've not heard of it before. Considering it strictly as a resveratrol source, it's pretty expensive in terms of grams of resveratrol per dollar, relative to other sources of sophisticated resveratrol formulations.Marc: I am a retired Chemical Engineer.
