The safest dark chocolate to consume with...

TheFountain's Photo TheFountain 15 Mar 2019

So,

According to the list provided on this page, the test results indicated that the safest chocolate samples seems to have been Trader Joe's 'Chocolate lovers' 85% cocoa.

Apparently, it is listed as ND which means not detected, and there were no parts per million detection of Cadmium or Lead.

Some of the other chocolates, as you will see had 7 parts per million or more.

Thoughts on this study? Thoughts on the results?

Unless they specify how they consistently source their cocoa, this might vary year to year or even batch to batch.

I thought about that also.

Trader Joe's is called Trader Joe's because they were one of the first companies in America to be involved in Fair trade which ensures that the makers of their products get a large percentage of the profits. But, I wonder how closely the makers are processed. I will need to do some digging if I ever want to eat Dark chocolate again. Which I may or May not.

The trader joes brand shows blank for cadmium, whereas "not detected" is indicated as ND.  Blank tends to mean unmeasured.  It would appear the best brand is the endangered species brand.

My Mistake I didn't catch that.

My updated research indicates that for Cadmium it says not tested, but for lead it says ND. Not detected.

     • Ghiradelli Intense Dark Midnight Reverie (86% Cacao) seems to be lead and Cadmium free, according to 2016 test results.
