Galantamine and anxiety

jackinbox's Photo jackinbox 12 May 2006

I tried 8mg of Galantime a few weeks ago but only for 2 or 3 days because I get anxious on it. It doesn't seems to be a problem if I don't take my medication (dexedrine + beta blocker) but I don't react very well to the mix. I tried 4mg while on meds today and got similar result: anxiety and cold hands. My guess is that the nicotinergic effet may be in cause. I want to take it mainly to improve my poor memory. Any suggestions? What about taking at night and get some vivid dreams as a bonus? Should I begin with a smaller dose? Where can I find 2 mg galantamine?

Unique Nutrition has a galantamine powder mix that would allow you to titrate 2 mg as long as you had a decent scale. Other than that, I'm not aware of a product that cntains less than 4 mg per cap.

Maybe galantamine is just not for you. You might consider huperzine instead for memory improvement - although there is some discussion on whether taking that daily is OK or not. I myself notice more from long-term huperzine than galantamine - but we're all different in the way we react to these substances.

the side effects you mentioned seem more characteristic of sympathetic-activating substances (like dexedrine). Perhaps there was some unfavorable synergy?

It's seems to be a synergic effect since I don't have those problems when using galantamine alone.
