Be aware that the DMAE moiety of centrophenoxine can enter the choline synthesis cycle and consequently increase the brain’s acetylcholine supply. In my case, 300 mg/day centrophenoxine led to feelings of depression within a week, probably through an increase in choline levels. I discontinued taking it after 10 days.

Acetyl-L-Carnitine might work by the same mechanism. ALCAR has a chemical structure that is similar to choline, but unlike choline, carnitine is not a neurotransmitter and has fewer reported side effects. It has been shown to reduce lipofuscin levels in aged rats.
