We should be taking much less resveratrol?
Rosanna 11 Apr 2023
I listened to someone on you tube who referred to a research study which suggested a much lower dose of resveratrol is most effective and safe and that higher doses, such as 1 gram may in fact do the opposite of what we want it to do.
I am working at the moment but I will try and get the research reference here in a day or two.
Perhaps some know of it already. Would love to hear your thoughts.

Thanks. Please post the research. It has been discussed for many years now, but I don't think there is a consensus about it yet.

I'll come back to discuss very soon, but I've found where I first heard it. It's on the you tube channel called Wellness Messiah with Rimon and it is the one titled 'Resveratrol: Why Taking Too Much Hurts Your Longevity (ep. 2)'
In it he mentions a number of research studies. Interested in other's thoughts on this subject. I will see if I can find the research papers and read when there's time and I'll be happy to discuss more here.

The first study he mentioned was from 2010, where low dose resveratrol was seen to be anti apoptotic, cardioprotective, improved post ischemic ventricular recovery, and reduction of myocardial infarct size.
A higher dose was pro apoptotic.
Higher again led to depression of cardiac function and increased myocardial infarct size.
His interest (as with many) seems to be prevention of cancer. I'm interested in prevention of heart disease, so this overview (simplistic as it is atm) would be concerning to me in that correct dosage would appear to be crucial.

I guess you mean this series on YouTube:
Episode 1:
Episode 2:
Episode 3:
I was confused by Episode 1, where an excerpt from an interview with David Sinclair was shown. There, he mentioned that in his study, only the rats who took resveratrol every other day lived longer. However, on numerous other occasions, Sinclair mentioned that he takes 1g every day. I have yet to find an explanation for this contradiction.

Yet Rimon takes 1 gram of resveratrol a day with fatty food and wine for better absorption. He says alcohol helps bioavailability. That may or may not be true.

Correction, he no longer takes 1 gram of resveratrol. In this video he looks at a 2021 study showing that low doses, 500 mg and under, are better for life extension than high doses.

My apologies for so many posts.
I just found a video were Rimon says that low dose resveratrol, while extending lifespan, causes cancer, but that high dose resveratrol, while not extending lifespan, protects against cancer. I think I'll give resveratrol a miss.
