Double check and add to brain repair regimen

paranoia's Photo paranoia 20 Mar 2007

supplements:
multivitamin/mineral
fish oil
Phosphatidylserine
lions maine
bacopa
acetyl-l-carnitine-arginate
neurorecovery: L-Glutamine, N-AcetylCysteine, Alpha-Lipoic Acid, Glutathione

please let me know if any of the above supplements might not actually be able to help with brain repair. please also let me know if there are any that i can add to my list. my brain is in bad shape and my future depends on supplements. It is the only thing that can possibly be done besides abstinence from things harmful to the brain. here is my list of that stuff, let me know if there is anything that i can add. thanks.

1. drugs and alcohol
2. unnecessary rx
3. fluoride
4. aspertame
5. garlic
6. MSG
7. stress
8. chlorine
9. synthetic sugar
10. radiation
11. nicotine

hahaha what, you're avoiding fluoride? chlorine? GARLIC? Sounds like you've been scared by sensationalistic media.

Dude, you have to calm down and do some meditation before resorting to supplements. I've got news for you, but you're still taking drugs, except these ones might have some benefits. You will still be dependent on drugs if "your future depends on supplements." I think you should definitely try a drug-free approach to self-healing before saturating your body with external chemicals.

only bacopa and lions mane are really drugs, the rest are amino acids or raw materials of the brain

brain repair.

If you review this topic I tried to provide evidence to support the use of a few herbs and drugs that seem to have true brain repair potential.

The cases I addressed in the linked topic are specifically to treat damage caused by methamphetamine abuse (which -- at least according to one study using high resolution MRI comparing healthy subjects with long time abusers of meth -- seems to cause a 10% loss in brain volume over a ten year period).

garlic is very beneficial to the brain.

aged garlic has been found to enhance spatial memory

+ it has all types of health benefits

where did you get your info that garlic was bad for you???

I agree with the flouride and MSG though. i use flouride free toothpaste. who know "for sure" if flouride is really bad or not for one's health??? not I.

you need to be doing stuff to exercise your brain---> crossword puzzles, sodoku, working on digit span etc...

you need to be doing physical activity which is beneficial for your whole body as well as your brain.

exercising alone is better than taking any supplements if you are trying to repair your brain

i use flouride free toothpaste.

So the kind NOT certified as anti-cavity by the ADA?

There is absolutely no reason to not use fluoride, and MSG is such an overblown thing it's ridiculous.

the first time fluoride was ever used in water was in the nazi concentration camps. after wwii ended it was used in the usa. it is part of prozac's compound and is similar to antipsychotics. it collects in the pineal gland.

WELL FOLKS TIME TO PACK IT UP, THAT PROVES IT, FLUORIDE IS A TOTAL SCAM

It really hurts me when I see people such as yourself jump to ridiculous conclusions as you have here. You show me where I said flouride is a scam. I simply stated that it was overrated. Did I say it didn't work? Did I say it was a scam? Did I say anything regarding to a conspiracy? I believed you need a lesson in vocabulary. Seriously, grow up please. It doesn't do any good having people bash other people's beliefs on these forums. Everyone is entitled to their own opinions and preferences. Just because I say I don't use flouride, I am some sort of nut? Since you like flouride, state it. Don't bash me because you disbelieve me. That is a very immature action to initiate. Grow up.

And everyone is entitled to make fun of you for them. And everyone should.

You are very immature and sound like a little bully playing on a playground.

Are you still in grade school?

The purpose of fluoride treatment is to replace the hydroxyl groups in the hydroxyapatite in your teeth with fluoride. Fluoro-apatite is harder for acid to dissolve. If you do this when you're a kid, what's the point in continuing when you're an adult? It's not like the fluoride groups fall off as you age and need to be replaced periodically.
